Just about to place an order for an i7 27" (pleased with the speed updates), but it's quoting 4 business days in the UK just by changing the processor from i5 to i7!!

For those who have placed an i7 order, when are you expecting delivery? I'm hoping if i place it today I may get it at a push this saturday.

When I bought my i5 quad iMac last week it was shipped by UPS. They tried to come on Friday but I wasn't in, and the next day they could deliver was Monday.. I don't think they deliver on Saturdays unfortunately, at least not in my neck of the woods (London). I'm not sure whether the i7 chip is built to order in China or Ireland for the UK market, I guess China due to the longer shipping time.

And yes.. I did buy an iMac last week the day before the rumour mill hotted up, but will be exchanging for a new one! Trying to decide whether I can afford to go all the way to an i7 though, and whether it's worth it for the hyperthreading technology? :)

I am in the same boat about i5 or i7 but at the end of the day you can upgrade ram, but you can't upgrade the CPU....therefore i7 is worth the extra, plus it also has hyperthreading which the i5 (to my knowledge) doesn't have. Enables multitasking much more efficiently from what I have read on here from previous comments

Mine shows shipping in 5-7 days, delivery between 10th-13th August ....

When I placed the order over the phone (I was due a discount for problems with my previous iMac order), the sales agent told me that my machine would be built in Ireland .... don't quote me on it but that's what he said :)

Ordered the i7 here with the SSD and 2TB disk and 8GB from the UK online store.

From the return email I'm seeing the following:

We estimate your order to be shipped 5 - 7 business days.
We estimate your order will be delivered to your shipping address
on or before 10 Aug, 2010 - 13 Aug, 2010.

I'm surprised as I suspected they might've been available quicker since the previous i7 was popular. Having seen a few other threads, it seems USA stores are carrying stock of i7's, but not UK stores (just yet)

Ordered my i7 yesterday the 27th, shipped today the 28th and gets here tomorrow the 29th.

I find it kinda annoying that the i5 quad is the only iMac now that doesn't have hyperthreading. I'm still deciding, I'm not sure how much the i7 will help me over the i5.. I need the computer for Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Flash, bit of Final Cut Pro and general internet/word/excel stuff. I don't know if any of the programmes I listed would be any faster with hyperthreading, or if they could use it in the future? I'm not a gamer and I don't do any hardcore encoding stuff or make feature films, but who knows what I might get upto in the next couple of years!
What do you reckon?

Cool, thanks for the info. Oops, I just quoted you! :D

Well, having owned 4 Macs since I switched over 6 years ago from "the dark side", my experience is to always go with the highest CPU you can afford and never buy the RAM from Apple, but buy from a 3rd party supplier. Like you, I will be doing the same tasks as you, but also video editing and using handbrake, so that's where the i7 comes into its forté. Then again, if applications come out later that supports hyperthreading, then you've future proofed yourself. I'll be upgrading from a 2008 MBP 15" 2.5Ghz and will be pushing the button tonight! Standard 27" spec with i7, plus the magic trackpad and battery charger, plus the printer rebate (why not?) :)

Thanks for getting back to me! And why may I ask are you not getting the iPod rebate too? :)

Do you know in which video editing programmes will hyperthreading help? And don't shoot me, but I haven't ever used handbrake. Have you seen the new lower prices for the refurbs?

Ah, that's beacuse I'm not a student! :)

I'm not that technically minded to know which video editing programmes hyperthreading will help, however, i've read on here that the new iLife 10 package will support 64-bit, so it should be even faster on the i7s than before. Handbrake I use to make digital copies of my DVD collection to have on my iPad.

Yes, I've seen the new lower prices too in the UK! Dilemma!! But I think the new one's just swing my vote!....now where can i find a student! :D
