Today I was using my Apple headset as normal, answered a call and all I got was static, I hung up, called them using the iPhone itself and asked them if they could hear (they heard the static too)

I turned the headset off, and restarted the iPhone, but I still get static when the headset is in use, and when it wasn't in use, I was getting small pulses from it - which I can only assume are electric shocks...

What process will I have to go through to get this replaced, calling AppleCare?

yes

Call applecare, they'll send you a new one.

I had a static problem w/my headset & if you have applecare for your iphone, the warranty also covers apple accessories such as bluetooth headsets. Makes the $69 extra worth it IMO. [They hide this nugget in the boilerplate]

I only have the standard warranty for the iPhone - but the headset itself is about 3 weeks old and I've only had the iPhone 5 months, so I'd guess it should still be covered...
