Hi Guys,

I'm in the market for a new computer and I am considering either the 15" i7 MacBook Pro or the 27" i7 iMac. I am currently using a 12" 1.3Ghz PowerBook G4 and I think a new faster computer will be a welcomed change.

I want a fast computer that will last several years (4+). I also don't mind paying extra to get it.

I was configuring a 27" iMac on Apple.com and noticed that for $750 you can add an additional SSD (1TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive).

My question to you is do you think the extra SSD will deliver improved performance? Better I/O? If so, would the improvements be noticeable or significant?

Thanks in advance!

I've got the 21.5 inch and that does everything I need to fast enough like using Logic Studio. I'd try to find some of the benchmarks and see how much of a difference they are. I would find them but I'm sort of in a car with very little signal so would take me ages. It is a lot more money to shell out though the $750 (could go towards your next iMac maybe) What are you going to be using your computer for though?

Thanks for the response! I will be using the computer for web browsing, word documents, PhotoShop, Flash and application development. I will also be looking to virtualize it and run Windows or Linux.

I love mine, no regrets.

Pretty much same set up

I7+256GB SSD+1 TB HD

If i had to do it all over again , I'd get the same machine, maybe even just get the 2TB HD.
