I'm hoping this is the right spot for this - I may try to cross-post in the iOS section because there seems to be no dedicated iCloud space.

I have a drive shared by my partner to me via iCloud with a number of folders and files. I have a regularly updated document that I would like to share to or place in that series of folders on iCloud. However, I don't want to just move this important document to a shared folder that I don't control, and I need it to be not a simple copy, but what Windows would call a "shortcut" file.

I did attempt to make the MacOS version of a shortcut file, but it cannot be opened on iOS or iPadOS. It's a password protected Pages file.

Since I cannot make a "shortcut" of this file apparently how do I get a living version of this file into that shared foldr without putting the original inside the shared folder(the fact that the folder is shared with me and not to me seems significant in this case)?

So you want to allow your partner to view and edit the file, but not delete it. Is that right?

Yeah, that’s correct. I don’t even necessarily care if they can edit. I just want them to have an updated version(I make changes regularly) and for me to have control over the storage location of the original. I’m just got comfortable having it stored in a location I could conceivably lose access to.
