Hi Im trying to simplify my workflow. I'd like to write a shortcut (assumingly with scripts included) to:
  • open two apps (Logic Pro and OBS or Quicktime) with new files,
  • display them' split screen' sidebyside on Mac,
  • and then start recording both apps at the same time ('R' key has been set in both apps),
  • to stop: hit space bar,
  • save both docs in specific location.
This would simplify the whole process down to a 'shortcut activation', then a 'space bar hit' at the end of recording.

With the roll out of Shortcuts, im confused as which method (SHortcuts/Automator/Applescript/Swift???) would be the most streamlined and practical way to go. Is using shortcuts a practical way to do this or is Automator still the way to go in Ventura on M1 Mac? I'd love to use a shortcut so its available on my phone/iPad/watch to activate while recording.

I have little to no experience in programing just a handful of scripts Ive used on my Mac over the years.
I appreciate the help and pointing me in the right direction

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for the suggestion, (and thank you for the help (last year?) with my Daily Countdown Shortcut!)👍
I have used Audio Hijack for other scenarios... I think it might only complicate this workflow.

What Im looking for here is a Shortcut or Automator script I can use to activate in 'one click' to— open my two apps in split screen, create a new doc in each app from template file, then use a single keystroke/button/script to automate the record/pause of both apps running at the same time. (...to cut down on the "setup" every time I need to make a quick demo clip.)

I imagine it to run like... (and this is what I do manually)
open appX, open appY
set split screen (X,Y)
open default file in appX, appY
wait for input (press R to Record, Space to Pause)
save on 'pause'

I don't have the scripting knowledge to write this but not against using Terminal, AppleScript etc if it'll get the job done. I hoped with the roll out of Shortcuts these sort of desktop level automations might be possible.
Please let me know if you have any ideas

What do you do with your Logic file afterwards?

well in this workflow for Online Demo videos... Im importing the video into LPX to overlay it on the multitrack audio, it's then mixed and edited, exported to iMovie for titles and transitions and send off to Youtube). *There are 'other ways/options' to creating this workflow, but I need the video in LPX for mixing.

this sounds like the workflow Audio Hijack was designed for

Having just looked up the manual...
Yes the scripting part would be very helpful. I don't need the routing capabilities, but I'd like to make similar Shortcuts/scripts for activating LPX and QT.
