Hi,
I want to get back to creating content on YouTube. For this, I am considering the iPad Pro M2 11 inch 128GB model. I want to both shoot and edit videos with iPad. I'll use Davinci since I'm used to it on the computer. My computer is old so it can't handle it anymore. It can't edit 4K video, but the iPad can. So, can you shoot videos with iPad? Do you think this is healthy? Can I connect any type of microphone to it? I have a wired lavalier microphone but would like to go wireless in the future. Also, I don't know what they say, but I started to like the microphones placed on the table. I will also get lighting. So, what about shooting videos outside with an iPad? Do I need to buy special accessories to put it on the tripod?

As you can see, with the iPad you will have everything in one place. Is there an error in my thinking? I want this because there are excessive taxes on iPhones in my country and the prices are very high due to the exchange rate. Because iPad Pro is half the price of iPhone 15, although it should normally be the same price. Anyway.

I had an iPhone 14 but I sold it. Do you think I should just go for the iPhone 15? Is it okay to buy an iPad Pro these days? Can we say that Apple will update the iPad Pros only when the M3 comes out? I have a hard time deciding on some things. Sometimes I make decisions too quickly.

Best,

Yes you can shoot video with iPad.

There is a cringey YouTube opinion (MKBHD ahem) that no one is allowed to use their iPad for taking video or photos, which arises from out of snobbery. For some people, their iPad has a better camera than their phone.

You can. You can use a tripod mount for the tablet itself - I have this one for my M1 12.9 -

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D99724N

It can only be used in landscape but this one appears large enough to support portrait -

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08Z7Z7QZ3/

The camera itself isn't of the same quality as the iPhone (I use my 14 Pro Max and an action camera) but it's not bad. You can use a wireless mic - Google "ipad wireless microphone". As noted above, ignore the iPad-as-camera snobbery.

As having the exact same device model you have (and as a main device), I can assure you that the iPad is a very competent video/photo device!

The camera is quality enough for the majority of users, the 120hz screen helps you view how the video would look in real time, and the screen real estate gives you lots of room for photo editing. You could even attach a keyboard to it if you're more used to a keyboard and mouse for touching up shots.

I've taken a handful of photos with my time with the device and I think you don't need to buy another device to have a great photo taking experience. Flash is very useful too. You get basically everything you'd need out of the camera. :3

While some people think the iPad pales in comparison to the iPhone in terms of camera abilities, the truth is that the iPad sacrifices a bit of raw camera quality for a much better editing experience, bringing both the convenience and fun of on-device touch ups. Hope you have fun with it!

isn't this view from the pretty general public view of out and about like in concerts or something along those lines where having a 13" tablet in front of the view of many others is quite rude.

No, it's more the case that people should view the performance in front of them rather than watching through a viewfinder.

I'm speaking of a specific take where content creators mock people who want to use an iPad generally as a camera.

It is also pretty recent that the iPads got some serious camera improvements to be fair..most of the iPads history the camera has been pretty mediocre. I do think the iPads now would be fine as the quality is good enough for sure, the biggest thing I would say to OP for restarting YouTube videos would be having a microphone to capture audio, audio will certainly make or break the videos

The iPad's camera is pretty decent, and you get the benefit of a larger screen to see whatever it is you are recording. I have never really played around with the other iPhone camera functions like cinematic mode, so I can't really comment on what you are missing out on. I am also not too familiar with microphones.

I feel it's definitely doable. What I did was edit videos using lumafusion, which also has the option to upload your video directly to YouTube from within the app (not sure if it's also available in Davinci).

I say, go for it.

I'm using LumaFusion a lot now on my M1 12.9 since it started supporting offline storage - I use a connected 1TB SSD. Works really well.

I think one camera difference in the iPad vs the iPhone is that there is image stabilization only in 720 & 1080, not in 4K.

The M2 iPad does seem to support video stabilisation up to 4k (but not when the true depth camera is used)? Now I am confused about the difference.

Though if the OP is going with the 128gb model, I imagine he might want to stick to 1080p footage.

I would personally opt for the 256gb model as well, but at least he has the option of external storage, as well as stage manager for when he prefers a more conventional desktop setup when editing videos.

To me as far as shooting with an iPad it all depends on what content you're making and what look you're going for. As the video link posted above shows, shooting and editing on an iPad is absolutely doable and can yield good results but there will be tradeoffs when it comes to controlling your shots in terms of available focal lengths, controlling depth of field etc. If that stuff matters to someone then shooting with a dedicated camera where focal length and aperture can be fully controlled can help address those concerns (and an iPad could still be considered as their editing platform of choice).
