For me, the “fun crowd” thing was something that made a fairly painful experience not-so-painful. Its definitely not enough of a reason to bring back the archaic nightmare of lining up at 4AM and praying that particular store has exactly what you want.
Lines would form organically due to spontaneous enthusiasm. I'd rather have Apple work on technologies and services that would generate such enthusiasm in the future. It would be intensely stupid to just choke supply to "create" lines. Apple is not Nintendo.
