Hi - I have been debating with applecare for over a week now. As many probably know there is a program implemented on certain 15'' powerbook screens that display white spots. THere is no such program for the 12'' powerbooks. However, applecare wont replace my monitor (which i turned in because of uneven backlight and low contrast/brightness) because they say that the white spots on my screen is a case of physical damage.

These white spots look identical to the white spots on the 15'' powerbook, so I reject the idea that it is physical damage until apple explicity explains the difference between my issue and the recalled 15'' issue. However no one will explain this, they say to research it on the internet. They often cite themselves as apple professionals, so this is the reason I expect them to take 15 minutes of their time to clearly explain the difference between the two. It should be no problem since they are pros and they are mkaing this declaration. But they're policy is that apple technicians diagnosed this as physical damage and I have to accept this.

isn't it equally fair and much better for apple's reputation to explicity explain this for me?? It helps me as much as it helps them.. the current state of affairs is completely unfair. or am i crazy???

my computer was even manufactured around the time that the 15'' powerbooks were made and are recalled

I had my screen on my 1.33 GHz Powerbook replaced due to white spots under Applecare. It was just before the one year was up. I'm based in the UK, but that shouldn't make any difference, right? A white spot is a white spot. It may be worth calling back again, as it was my experience that different operators seem to be more willing to help.

i have spent about two hours a day for one week speaking to different people who will not acknowledge the discrimination my computer is facing.

were your white spots similar to this?

Yep, I had one just below where the Apple logo is. I'm not sure, but I have a feeling there was another one, slightly fainter next to it or below it, but I can't remember.

Feel free to use me as a reference - I know how annoying it is!
