Just got my new 13" macbook air. Everything looks good and the computer works except there is some discoloration or light scratches on the LCD backcover. It is not significant but definitely easily noticeable, which bothers me.
I am wondering if I should/could request for a replacement in this case and if they will allow it. For $1300 I would expect cosmetically perfect. Anybody has similar experience?

It depends on both how obvious they are, and the exact person you get. Apple is generally fanatical about the "look" of their products, going as far as offering replacement top cases free of charge for the older polycarbonate MacBook, even when the system is long out of warranty, simply because of some purely cosmetic - not at all structural - chipping.

I'd say take it to one Apple Store, ask, if they say no, take it to a different one.

The longer you wait to have someone inspect your laptop, the more likely they'll blame it on you and disallow an exchange.

Bad that there is no apple store near my college. So I have to deal with them on the phone.

Not worth it. In a few weeks of ownership, you'll have those scratches etc. anyway. Why return a perfectly working machine.
