My desktop system is the "server" of my file storage and backup regime. It has a 1TB ssd plus a 4TB spinner for primary storage. The internal SSD keeps my iCloud, and Photos library. Plus, if I am going to be editing FCPX I will move that library to the SSD for editing. Pretty much all my other "data" is kept on the 4tb spinner.

Nightly I use CCC to backup the SSD Photos and FCPX folders back to the 4tb spinner so it is always up to date. After that completes, the whole 4tb spinner is backed up in whole to a second 4tb spinner, so I basically have 2 -3 copies of my most important and recent files.

I don't worry much about the iCloud data (which has become the majority of my day to day regular files) because it is present in whole on 3 other systems.

I feel pretty secure with this level of redundancy but I have recently been considering adding a Time Machine for the 1TB SSD plus the 4TB primary spinner. My main reason would be the ease to find and restore lost files. Despite CCC having safety net and snapshots, I just don't find it all that easy to find and restore a file. Plus, it never hurts to have a 3rd backup.

Thanks for any thoughts offered.

I use both TM and CCC to backup to two, separate drives. My thinking is this way I am not relying on any one app for my backups. So if somehow TM or CCC either one gets messed up, I still have a fallback position for a good backup.

Me, too. TM is also very convenient to got back and get an earlier version of a particular file you may have overwritten or deleted.
