When I signed up for the public beta back in 14.x, I thought cool, I'll be able to help change the face of iOS. It was pretty stable and I didn't have much feedback.

Now on iOS 15, I've submitted 5 Feedbacks. I thought I was being revolutionary. 3 of them shows 10+ similar reports and it's fixed in PB3. The other 2 say no other similar reports and it's still Open.

So am I going to make that big of a difference? I have one work app that isn't working. It's an in-house app that we install through another app. I let our people know and they said it usually fixes itself when iOS 15 is available to the public. Again, I thought I was going to help make a difference and I'm getting nothing.

I'm alright taking the risk running the beta. My iPhone isn't mission critical. Maybe I'm just annoyed after seeing my Feedback submissions and a little bored since I'm waiting for the shower to clear so I can get ready for work.

I keep previous devices to use on beta, so I always have the stable release available. Even if the native apps work well enough in beta, you cannot rely on third-party developers to fix issues related to iOS beta. There are always a handful of apps that are completely unusable, especially during the early stages of beta.

If you don’t know whether you want to beta test or not, Borrowing a motto from somewhere else: if you don’t know why you are doing this, don’t do it.

This seems to be more about you than helping out with testing a software product. There are millions of beta testers. The likelihood that you will identify some discrete issue and be recognized for your unique achievement is zero. However, your providing Apple with additional data to fix the 3 issues you noted as fixed in beta 3 probably did assist in some fashion with those fixes.

So, no, you're not going to make a big difference. If that's the only reason you're in the program, I join the others in saying that you probably should not be.

Don’t hold your breath with the Feedbacks. I have some Feedback bug report submissions from 2015 that are still ”Open”.
