should i be concerned with my MBP?

ok, i hardly ever turn it off, i usually just put it to sleep (just close it) when i need to.

today, for the second time (not second time today) after i close it, put it in my bag, go to the next class, i get there, open it up, and it has restarted......

not sure what's causing it though. any ideas? should i be worried about this?

You should turn it off before you put it in your bag. It may overheat and it'll be costly to fix.

Also, you should have "Allow Blowtooth devices to wake this computer" check off if you are gonna put it in your bag in sleep.

I'd say it's under warranty so do whatever. Mine does that sometimes as well and I get quite annoyed to get somewhere and have a dead battery. It's not your fault. It's supposed to sleep when you close it. If it overheats then, call Apple.

I've heard about this happening on a Macbook (one account on MR) but it wasn't that it had restarted but that it had awoken. Do you think it could be the latch?

I love the "instant" startup when putting the MB/P to sleep but I'm afraid I'll have to agree with #2 and shut down your MBP unless someone has a solution to this...

This isn't true. If the computer goes to sleep like it should when it is closed, it doesn't create any heat. The only thing receiving power is the ram, which is kept alive for when you awake from sleep. Turning your computer off before putting it away is a time consuming ritual that has become obsolete in recent years since computers can just sleep instead. Going to sleep and waking from sleep takes a mere second or two, takes extremely little power, and is perfectly safe.

well when i opened it, it has already restarted. it didnt restart when i opened it. and it doesn't always do this, it just happened to do it today.

Is the light by the latch glowing lighter and darker? Kind of "snoozing?" If it isn't that's a good sign things aren't working propoerly.

I'm talking about when it "accidentally" turns on for whatever reasons, keyboard got hit or bluetooth turned it on. I've had this happened to my MBP. I rather be safe than to have my computer overheat and possibly losing all of my stuff.

Did you upgrade the memory in this machine? I've seen people have issues when moving their laptops due to poorly seated memory that gets dislodged when moving. I myself had this problem with my Powerbook and it was causing the same issues you're reporting. Worth a look.

i didn't upgrade the memory in this machine myself. i upgraded through apple this time.

i've had this thing since around christmas, and it's only done it twice, and both times recently. you still think it could be from the ram?

Right after that line, the system basically starts rebooting. This is a pretty likely indicator that you have bad RAM... see this thread:

As heehee mentioned before, check to make sure that "Allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer" is disabled.
