Hello all,

My wife and I currently share two Apple IDs: The one we use for iTunes (@mac.com), and then the one we created when we bought Mobile Me (@me.com).

It appears Apple has a recommendation for folks like us in this situation - use the iTunes Apple ID for purchases, use the Mobile Me Apple ID for iCloud.

My question is: We do use Mobile me for Calendar and Contact synch across all of our Macs and iPhones, however we do not use the Mobile Me (@me.com) email address for an active email address - it is simply our Apple ID for Mobile Me. Because of this scenario, should I not bother with converting Mobile Me to iCloud (basically forget the Mobile Me account), and just set up iCloud with my iTunes Apple ID? My thought is that iCloud would just synch our calendars and contacts anyway, so why bother with converting Mobile Me to iCloud and having two separate Apple IDs.

I have read posts that say that the Apple recommendation stated above is fine, and other posts state that using the two separate Apple IDs may not be the best set-up and there could be a loss of integration/functionality.

I will state that my iTunes Apple ID is a (@mac.com) and not an (@me.com) address. If iCloud requires an (@me.com) email address, I guess my question is answered and I need to use/might as well use my existing Mobile Me address for iCloud (versus creating a third new Apple ID). Does anyone know if that is the case?

Thanks for reading!

Mike

I was in the same situation and converted my @mac.com address to iCloud and everything works just fine. You can keep the @mac address. Juts use the iTunes AppleID in the iTunes store section of the phone and the two will work together with no issues.

Thanks for the response, that is good to know! Once you did that did you then need to turn off the Mobile Me settings on your Mac and iPhone? Otherwise without doing the official Mobile Me -> iCloud conversion I would think the system would think you are still using Mobile Me and try to sync data via Mobile Me and with the new iCloud...
