Should I buy a 2015 15" MacBook Pro?... or wait

I currently have a 2017 13" MacBook Pro without TouchBar. I cannot stand this keyboard and the computer overheats constantly. I have my eye on a used Mid 2015 15 inch Pro with the 2.5ghz i7. The price is $999 and its in great physical shape with a brand new battery. Is this a good decision or should I wait for the new 14 inch MacBook Pro before deciding? Let me know your opinions.

ps: I can get around $900-1000 for my current Mac so its a pretty even trade.

Why not the 16" MBP?

Having said that, even though the 2015 MBP's are great computers (I have the 13" size), I hesitate to recommend one now because of "the age factor".

If you can hold out a few more months, I sense that the upcoming 14" MBP is going to be very nicely done...

I'm not sure why you want to spend 1,000 on a 5 year old computer but that's just me. Why not wait until Apple rolls out the updated 2020 13" MBP and then you'll get the butterfly keyboard.

Spending a grand on a used 5-year-old laptop is a little... difficult to recommend, even if such machine is the excellent 2015 MBP. I get the frustration, but at this point I'd just hold on a little longer and see what Apple has in store next, as a 13" or 14" with scissor keyboard is bound to pop up at some point this year.

I bought this one, a 2.8 GHz model 2015 in December. It runs great, and I guarantee it would run faster than what you have now. That said, I'm always in favor of waiting if you can. My wife has a 2016 13 inch model, I would never prefer hers over mine.

Thanks, that’s the only thing holding me back! I know it will be a great machine but it’s 5 years old now which sounds crazy (it feels like yesterday). I think I’ll just wait for the 14 inch so I don’t have any regrets

thank you, I think I’ll wait and see what the 14 inch has to offer, hopefully it starts at a reasonable price. Otherwise I may just splurge and treat myself to a 16 inch and keep it for a long long time

16" 8C or 14" definitely sound ideal, but if you decide you need something sooner, you can find the 2015 for $700+ if you take your time on ebay. It's harder to find them cheap and with a new battery, but I recently lucked out and found one for $750 ($800 with tax). Try this search, and change out the "radeon" for anything else that describes the graphics card—AMD, 2GB, etc.
If you don't need the dedicated graphics, you can find one for even cheaper

I almost spent TWO! The ones i saw for a grand (Cdn) were not exactly confidence-inspiring. The 'nice' 15.4" DG ones, with the least use and the best configurations were all going for $1100-1300+USD. That was still with no history, no box, nothing.

I said screw it, inked my soul onto the dotted line and bought a brand new 16". Had it a week now and i am absolutely LOVING this thing. Just hooked up my brand new massive MASSIVE monitor tonight, and swept everything else off my desk into the trash. Could not be happier. The i9 is more than i need now, but i need it to still be relevant in 5 years... which i think it will be.

If you can... buy new. This is sensitive, delicate, high-tech equipment.

Have you considered the new Air? It has the new keyboard, and you currently have a 13" display so you should be fine with the screen size. You'd end up spending a similar amount of money, for a brand new laptop.
