One of the Black Friday deals around here is a 32 GB BlackBerry Playbook for $118 Canadian. Should I even bother considering it?

Sure. As long as you realize going in that the tablet isn't top of the line, will never be updated, has limited to no support on sites like XDA, has a terrible OS and so on. Personally, I think you'd be better off spending a few extra loonies and getting a Nexus 7 for $199 USD. (Not sure if the exchange rate is still around 1 to 1 still?)

I purchased the playbook when the price dropped to $199 last year. Quickly returned it. There were barely any apps available and the OS was very lacking. I think there was supposed to be a huge update later down the road but I wasn't going to wait. I also wasn't impressed with the battery life. Maybe I got a lemon but the thing drained like a *****.

The only thing I liked was the build quality.

Other then that its a great buy :p

Seriously siiip5 is correct, the playbook is a prior generation (compared to what is out now), that was an utter failure for RIM. There's even less reason to by it in 2012/2013 when people were not buying it in 2011

I'd agree with everyone else. Don't buy it. Go with a nexus 7 16GB for $200. If the price is too steep you could probably get a used 16GB off Kijiji or Craigslist for around $150.

It depends on what you would use it for, but the BlackBerry Playbook is actually a very good device. Just understand it doesn't have many apps, and won't have more until it gets upgraded to the 10 OS next year.

I certainly wouldn't buy it on price alone. Spend the extra on the Nexus 7 if you want to do a bunch of things with it.

It isn't a bad price as long as it currently does everything you want it to do. As others have said, there won't be any updates for it.

My wife loves her PB. Its no iPad mini but it performs reasonably well, particularly for the price. For a 32GB wifi tablet, its a bargain if your can live with the small app selection and standard apps. I'm pretty certain it will get BB10 after the phones get it.
