Hi,

I already owned a M1 Mac Mini at home and would like to go mobile with a MBA.

I really hate the design of the M2 MBA and with also the price increase, I am considering a M1 MBA.

But with more than 6 weeks to wait for a CTO with 16/512, i am thinking about buying a 8/512 in a retail store.

my most intensive use would be 20% of Adobe photoshop and indesign and web browsing / MS Office / Teams the rest of the time.

I am not doing any video editing.

Could it be a good choice ?

thanks

well, would 8 Gb be enough?

I am happy with my M1 Mac Mini. But as it has 16 gb and it's my only Mac, i don't have point of comparison...

If i had 2 Macs with 8 and 16 Gb of ram, i would be able to compare and decide about the MBA, but i don't.

I have been looking at plenty of youtube videos saying 8 Gb would suffice, but at the same time, lots of people on Macrumors would go for 16...

I bought an Air, 8/8/1TB. I've noticed that 8 GB hasn't ALWAYS been enough – 90% of the time yes, but just not always. (Monterey's memory leaks probably don't help.) I wish I went with 16GB now, because the euro prices for M2 (and M1 after the price bumps) are impossible for me to justify. So I'd say – if you're the type to get a new laptop every two years, sure, why not. If you want it to last longer, get 16 GB. (Or buy mine and I'll get 16 GB ;) )

this leaves me no choice than ordering a CTO MBA and wait 5-6 weeks then, or wait for a refurb

Take cues from the Stage manager fiasco. RAM is important. If Apple sell a base computer with 8GB of RAM, that means you will want 16GB of RAM. The base model is a trap.

I would even avoid buying the M1 model at this point. They're 2 years old computer sold at the same price 2 years ago.
