hi everyone, ive been thinking about buying this used iPhone Xr that a friend of mine sells at 250€. It has some severe scratches on the front screen and some problems with the battery (according to my friend it shuts down at 30%).
i really dont know what to do cause i never had an apple product so i wanted to ask for your advice. Here's a video of the phone. thanks

Apple, and Amazon though maybe not UK, sell refurbished which are safe. I still use 2018 iphone X.

MR had a news piece on the subject yesterday

Definitely not that one. But a used XR is fine. As used XR and XS prices are so close. I'd get an XS. That's what I did. For the nicer screen and camera. Definitely off eBay or Amazon from a seller with a high reputation for phones. Preferably with pictures of the actual device being sold.

Have you friend at least replace the battery first with Apple, then you guys can talk.

The iPhone XR itself, if new, is fine. If Apple in my country offer it at a discount next year (when they probably discontinue it), I might get one. IP67, great battery life, modern design, it seems to be a great phone.

Oh not that xr ehhh. Unless is free don’t buy it LOL. A well functioning Xr is fine for 2021 but what you are buying is an unknown box of problems.
That phone is good for someone off Craigslist to buy and tinker and diagnose and fix but for most people don’t bother.

I would not buy that phone if it shuts down at 30%. That means that either the battery is already dead/was changed with a non-original battery and/or some internal parts are defective and cause the shutdown.

Also i would want at least a screen without scratches. 250 is way too much for all these problems.
A new screen and a new battery from
Apple comes close to the 250€ he wants, what would mean to get it back working again you pay round about 500€, but for a little less you get a complete new XR with warranty, no scratches and excellent battery

The XR itself is really good. I bought one this year and do not miss anything, really a wonderful smartphone. You should try to get a refurbished one or maybe a new one if there is a special offer.

NO!!! if it ain't in pristine condition, it's a no go. Your friend needs to learn how to look after his phones better. Tell him you'll take it for free.
