iPod Should I buy an iPod Touch?

My kids want iPod Touches, have since they were little (see video link). Are they going to update it this fall? Should I wait?

Apple Device Refresh - October 2012

Hi there! This is a rather common dilemma, "now or later". Apple will be updating the iPhone and iPod line in October. Last year, Apple didn't do anything to the iPod Touch, so this year everyone is anticipating rather significant improvements.

In terms of waiting, October is still four months away, which means that your kids are going to get antsy. In the end, the iPod Touch will serve the same purpose; entertainment.

If a device update won't mean anything to you, go ahead. If having new features means a lot, then you should wait.

I wouldn't wait. The 4G touch (which I own) is a great gadget with few flaws. The main thing people carp about is that the cameras aren't up to the quality of the iPhones. Well the touch is much smaller than iPhones so there's less room for higher megapixel cameras.

The 32 GB unit I have has gobs of room for apps, audiobooks, music, photos and video, and the Retina display is gorgeous.

What more could your kids want?
