I was wondering if some of you could help me, I need an Ipod Classic Asap I bought one and took it back last week but I really need a new classic Ipod.

I want to know if any one knows if there is any news of an update or redesign about to happen anytime soon for the classic. I keep hearing about the Touch but i'm not attracted to that. Do you think i will miss out on anything major if i purchase a classic now? Besides i've seen a deal for brand new ipod classic, with plug charger gear 4 dock and silicone case for £216 it is very tempting.

Please help.

If you need it now, buy it now. Classic hasn't got much love for years so I doubt there will be anything major. Flash memory is too expensive or it will be a downgrade and SSDs are way too pricey so the HD is the best choice and there are no bigger ones AFAIK

I would wait. If there is no redesign the capacity may increase or the price will drop. And even if they discontinue it the price would be cheap from stores wanting to get rid of them.

I have a feeling, since the Touch isn't supposed to get a memory upgrade, that for now, the Classic will live on. But I don't see them changing a thing. It's a "Classic" for a reason. Some people want a no frills music player with tons of storage. The Classic is your answer to that. I have a feeling if they keep the Classic, it'll be just as it is today, no difference. Price drop? Maybe, but assuming the Touch price points stay the same, I say the Classic stays right around $250. Possibly a drop of $25 or $50. But I wouldn't count on it. Dropping it to $199 would create unwanted competition for the base model Touch. Apple has carefully not put any of the iPods at the same price point if you notice. There's no overlap on any one price, so there's never a case of someone saying "I have $X amount of dollars, which do I want?" Any change in model involves a price increase or decrease. Pretty crafty.

I'm going shopping for one at the end/beginning of next month, keeping it wrapped, waiting for announcements. If there is a new one then I'm taking it back.

That's a really smart idea. Maybe I should do that as well because I've been wanting the Classic real bad as well.

Buy one from apple a little after 2 weeks before the scheduled iPod event. If there's a new one, return it and buy a new one. If there isn't, keep it. Win win situation. :)
