Finally the announcement of the new imac's seems to be here.
I am undecided about where to buy the imac. Are there any advantages/disadvantages when buying from Apple. I am considering BestBuy or a local re-seller. The advantage to bestbuy is I can put it on my card and make equal payments. If I buy direct from apple it is a payout all at once on my visa or debit card. With visa I get double the warranty. Apple seems to be very picky with regards to returns or service trouble. i.e. if you purchase a customized mac(videoram upgrade) you cannot return it. So I am excited about getting my first Apple but not sure where and how to get it. Any suggestions?

If u have student discount, I would get in from apple but then again its practically no saving factoring in the tax. Something expensive like the imac could save u a good deal with the student discount.
A good place to get it is from amazon, usually free shipping and no tax. sometimes even with MIR.
Another place is macmall.

Best Buy won't have the lastest revision for a while if ever.

They may get a special shipment of Yonah based machines at a good price,
but you're better off ordering direct from Apple if you want the newest revision.

Go with the cheapest. i was originally thinking about my MB from Apple but PCWorld business was a lot cheaper (£803 for a blackbook).

can u get applecare on a mac not bought straight from apple?
Yes, it is still an Apple product so you can register it and purchase Applecare anytime in the first year.

Use your visa card and buy from apple online, the extra year warrenty is priceless if your not going to buy apple care..... you can always get apple care later from a diffrent retailer if you wanted too...

Though some resellsers offer a warranty/insurance program that's much cheaper than AppleCare (in Vienna, Austria, there are at least two shops who offer something comparable for the third of the price).

Normally I wouldn't buy directly from Apple, but I really wanted a bigger HD and the free iPod deal was so tempting... :D

I would go to you local apple resaler and test the machine first, then sneak out of the store and order it from amazon to avoid tax:D
