Hello
I'm using MacBook pro 13'' i5 8GB RAM ( only ) 2015 model for now.
I'm, web developer, I have to upgrade my computer to have more power.
I have 3 options:
1) Wait until new mac will come out
2) Buy I5 6 core 256GB 570x 8GB (upgrade up to 40GB) RAM and sell it after some time new will come out
3) Buy I9 9 core 512GB 580x 8GB (upgrade up to 40GB) RAM

What do you guys think?

1. Wait.
2. Sell.
3. Buy.

That's the order. The choice is yours.

WWDC is imminent. The hardware releases have been lacklustre so far. So an impact landing (New iMac design) for hardware is overdue. A warmed over iMac would prob' been released by now.

If you cave before WWDC, make sure you buy SSD for it.

You have a MacBook Pro 13 to last you for 5-6 weeks until we find out. (I'm waiting and I have no iMac. GPU fried.)

The current iMac is overpriced, underspecced and a year out of date.

You could also look at getting an OWC refurbished iMac Pro for $3,479 which is a great deal, besides the specs over the standard iMac it has much improved thermals, better webcam, speakers, mic and 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports:

That's qualified 'decent' offer compared to the Apple original sticker price. If ExtraPower trades in his 13 inch 'Pro' then he'll get it even cheaper maybe.

With WWDC so close. It's probably still best to wait and the discounts on the iMac Pro maybe even steeper and the current iMac with reasonable (by Apple standards) discounts.

The new iMac may offer more for less.

The iMac only offers better cooling over the top end iMac (which is faster in many ways) which is cheaper. And still have ram access.

5-6 weeks isn't long to wait.

If you can possibly beg, borrow, steal something to bridge you over until WWDC, I also think we're going to hear iMac news then. The question at that point may become when does the new hotness go into production. That could be immediate or later.

If you compare the properly spec'd 2019 iMac as a baseline iMac Pro which was linked to above for $3,479 the iMac comes out to $4,049 (yes I know you can upgrade RAM aftermarket cheaper but still the iMac Pro is Apple supplied RAM), and the iMac Pro still has a better GPU, better sustained performance due to cooling, and better webcam/mic/speakers/4 TB 3 ports.

Thanks for the advice, about refurbished devices, I don't want to any used iMac or refurbished ones. I'll buy a new one, so basically the best way is to wait to June. The worst thing is that nobody will give 100% sure that new iMac even will come in this year

I've purchased plenty of refurbished Macs over the years and they have been fine. Arguably they are a safer bet than a new one because they undergo a second quality-control step when they come back. And the vast majority are probably just returns within the 15-day return window and not machines that had a catastrophic failure and needed to be repaired and resold.

But I didn't ask about it, money it's not a problem, I just don't want to buy a computer and then sell it after 2 months

If moneys not a trouble then just buy the one that meets your needs now, then sell it if you need to upgrade in another year or two. But you don't understand you are getting a much better VALUE going certified refurbished, which carry the same warranty and are 100% indistinguishable from brand new.

Ok maybe like that. Money's not a problem, but ofc. I don't want to lose them :D
I don't like refurbished devices, anyway it's for me for my business, so I want to new Imac, not like new :D
The wort thinks is, that not even guaranteed that Imac will come in June or July.

Apple's refurbishing process is a bit unique compared with most companies. It's not just that they inspect things and then repackage them. For most product lines the entire exterior casing is replaced, battery is replaced, and so on. Apple also treats their refurbished products as if they were new, giving you the same warranty as a new product with the option to extend it. The only downside to the refurbished products are 1) having to wait for the configuration that you want to be listed in the store (if it ever is), and then trying to buy it before someone else gets it; 2) you'll never have the latest and greatest - not first, anyway (if that matters to you); 3) the box is usually a more bland box, rather than the standard retail box (if that matters to you - the unboxing still has the fancy Apple-designed packaging features).

Advice in your case is a tricky one. iMacs are due for a refresh, but thanks to the coronavirus it's unclear if the reveal will be pushed back, or even the release (they may show off a system and then tell us "available this October"). Since you seem like you want the have the latest and greatest but also feel like you're spending wisely, I'd recommend this: assuming you can still work on your current system for another 1-2 months, don't buy anything yet. Wait for the WWDC to see what products are released, and what the release timeline is. If nothing is announced, or it's announced but the release date is still months away, then get a refurbished system that isn't the latest and greatest but that will still make your life a bit easier, and then plan to upgrade sooner than you usually would (not necessarily to what ever is going to be released now, but maybe another 1-2 update cycles).

AFAIK, OWC doesn't offer the same warranty as Apple does on their refurbished ( Apple offers Apple care in order to secure 3 years of coverage ). This is a big deal. My Apple refurbished 2019 iMac just went in for a logic board replacement seven months after my purchase. Entire cost covered by Apple. Maybe OWC offers this too but I don't see it.

OWC has their own warranty but I would go Apple certified. You can currently get an Apple certified iMac Pro for $3,500 http://ipowerresale.com/product/27-imac-pro-8-core-3-2-5k-late-2017-space-gray-2/
You can add AppleCare+ to that as well.

Unfortunately, I don't know anyone local with a Mac let alone a spare back up Mac.

I thought about going 2nd hand. But even 300-500£ I may as well put it towards a Hack', a Mini (possibly) or just wait.

It's not nice being 'stuck in the middle.' It's taught me a lesson about having a back up and fall back option.

My ideas are Hack' dual PC boot. Mac Mini as back up server. New iMac when it ships. I'm currently weighing up a PC/Hack' build...and if that can be made to dual boot.

If this was Apple of the Jobs G3 Blue and White tower era? I'd have ordered already. How I miss those days.

I'm still thinking we'll get a WWDC reveal preview with a shipping date.

The latest 'hint' or rumour seems it may be the back end or 'fall' of this year. Not want I want to hear. But I'm open to being surprised come the WWDC.

It seems high prob' that a new iMac is coming this year. There in lies the rub for those that want/need one now.

So even though the iMac Pro for sale at £3500 (probably not here in the UK...we don't seem to get these sexy dollar sales...) the new iMac will probably blow past that on many levels. Least of all a teh sexy new design.

Wait for WWDC at least. Then come back and lets talk. Until then its silly to buy now. You would be wasting money as the offering is overpriced, old and insulting as others mentioned.

Don't give Apple your money and make them think its acceptable. Its not. The iMac needs refresh :)

Amen to that, Freida.

Not before the end of the year if you are looking for something with greater performance. The i9-9900 is the top Intel chip at that power point and no replacement ready now. Newer '10th gen' chips are either lower power (suitable from MBA and MBP) or have higher power (and so cooling) requirements.

Just possible Apple might update the form factor and/or external connections (TB/USB), but I don't expect that unless Apple intend to continue with Intel in the higher end iMac for some years.

I may be wrong...

I've bought two imacs as refurbs - 2011 and my 2019 - they are immaculate. You'll save a few hundred dollars - well worth the savings when the only difference is the original box.

Yeah...

But that hasn't stopped HP, who are one of an increasing number of PC vendors, finding their design, value and performance mojo.

32 inch. AiO. 8 core. Nv 2080. 32 gigs of ram.

£3k.

Pull your finger out, Apple.

Apart from the lower chin the design is not actually that awful. Also, the specs are actually very nice.
2080 is a big surprise in this package.
If HP can do this then Apple can do it much better. So, can Apple release an iMac that will truly be "substantial" or are we looking at weak and small bumps that at this point don't interest anyone?
I kinda wish Apple would put the same attention they put into their iPhones into other Apple products.
iMac neglected for years, Mac Pro updated after so many years. TouchBar is a joke and macOS is not any better.
Can we get good update Apple or will you disappoint us again?

Yeah...
