Hi there
I have the MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, and it has only caused me problems and problems. everything has been changed on this machine, and Apple has now said for the 4 th time get it repaired. There is nothing left to repair.
Anyway I have to get another laptop, so should I get the Air M1 or MacBook Pro M1 Or should I wait?
I really don't want to end up with another crappy model as the 2016. Any suggestions

I’d say go for the Air. I suspect the rumored 14 and 16 inch models will be replacements for the current 16 and high end 13 inch Intel MacBook models.

So unless you are looking to spend $1799 or more on the 14 inch. They probably won’t update the M1 until the end of the year.

To be fair. There have been a number of reports of external monitor issues. Also speed issues with external SSD. The next models will likely hammer out those issues.

I say it depends.

My story is that when I got my M1 Mini I needed a new computer desperately. I was using a Mid 2011 iMac great machine but High Sierra was it’s last OS.

So I got the M1 Mini. Will something be out sooner or later with upgraded specs? Of course. But that’s the tech game. Upgrades are always coming.

I’ve got a ton of work done by not waiting. Work that wouldn’t have got done on my old iMac and work that I wouldn’t have done waiting for the next Apple Silicon machine.

It just depends.

I would recommend the the Air if you buying right now, or wait until the MacBook Pro M1X.

I’ve struggled with this decision, myself. I feel like I’m losing out with the 7 core GPU, even though it isn’t an enormous difference. If you bump up to the 8 core GPU MacBook Air, there’s not much of a gap between it and the Pro.

I started out with a base MacBook Air, but I’ve now ordered a refurbished MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM. Buying refurbished made the price better. I’m still torn though whether I should just stick with the MacBook Air 7 core GPU. I could do 16GB of RAM and 512GB SSD for about the same...

The divide is definitely much smaller right now. I mainly want the brighter screen, HDR speakers, and the 8 core GPU. I’m going to compare the Pro I have coming this week with my base MacBook Air this week and determine how much better the Pro is.

I bought the 8 core GPU, 16GB, 1TB version of the Air M1. And that's only because I got a trade-in $1080 value for my 2018 MBP 15', which is a damn good trade-in value being that it's only selling for about $150 more online. I'll make more than that back, when I trade-in the Air M1 for the MBP M1X. This is the main reason I didn't go for the Pro M1.

I think you'll like the Pro M1 better. And yes, even though the Air M1 brightness is adequate, I do wish it was at least 100 nits brighter. But the Air M1 is still the better value.

It all depends on the workload and what you need. I take it you don't do anything like run Windows in a VM? (I'd wait or get an Intel Mac if so)

Light workload, Macbook Air, medium, Macbook Pro, especially if you need a laptop, heavy or just a desktop, the Mac Mini. Something with even more processing power, a higher end Intel Mac or wait, and possibly a while.

But don't you think the new MacBook pro-M1X will be more expensive than the M1or do you think they will dump the price on the M1 MacBook. I guess they cannot?

Never Intel again. I have a lot of websites open. Now for instance I have 30 open. But I the Air should be able to work with that right?

It depends on which sites and how they're programmed. Websites can be notoriously bad memory-wise, especially when using Chrome.

@trinehb , this might help your decision, when I got my new M1 Air back in November last year, I posted a detailed review and compared it to my 15" 2016 MBP that it replaced.

I know you have the 13" MBP, but it is a similar vintage. 5 Months on, I am still super impressed by my Air, and I have just bought my wife a Gold base M1 Air to replace her 7 year old intel MBA. She is loving that one as well.

MBP M1X will definitely be more expensive. Based on said changes in the rumor mill.

i open a lot of apps and website, it's still survive. some hang xcode because my workload pretty nasty compare normal user. Conclusion if just website, m1 will suspend the memory a bit . For much better get 16 gb ram
