Should I call Apple, again?

I have had about 5 nVidia based mac mini's in the past 2 years. I just bought a
used 2.0 ghz 9400m GPU model.

It seems to have an audible fan noise/vibration while the cpu is at zero load. It's not a hard drive noise but a fan/vibration. If I never had a mac before I would not think twice and live with it. Since all my other mini's have been silent it is driving me crazy.

This mini has another 1.5 years of applecare left. So my question is, would apple fix this for me, or would they think I'm nuts?

Go to the nearest Apple Retail Store, Let them plug it in and let them see it themselves and maybe even let you probably get a new one or fix the current one.

I think I will do that. I will bring both of my mini's and let them hear them side by side. Now with a store full of people it may be hard to hear.

If the CPU is at zero load then it shouldn't be warm at all. Does the fan right to high speed as soon as you turn it on? If it does, resetting the SMC usuall fixes it. Just unplug all the cables from behind the Mac Mini (display, USB, firewire and power cable) and let it sit for 15 seconds. Then plug it back in and turn it on and see if it still does the same thing.

I noticed on my mini if a certain cable is unplugged (a fan cable), the other fan goes into overdrive. If you're not squeamish about opening up a mini, try checking the connections.

Is this not why Applecare exists? Take it in and get it evaluated.

I just got my mini back today from the apple store. They said the bearing in the fan was the problem and replaced it.

I still have the same noise and it's driving me crazy.

the fan is spinning at 1500 RPM , cpu 57 C at zero load.

I guess it is time to bring it back.
