Okay, so i placed my order on 27 August
shipping is 5 - 10 Sept
delivery 14 - 20 Sept

I'm wondering if I should cancel now and wait to see what is announced on 5 Sept.

Reasons being that there will probably be a Back to School promo announced in the Uk after the 5th.

Also maybe there'll be announcement on Leopard....

Or am I just being crazy ?

I cant remember the last time i saw a back to school promo here in the UK. If they did then i would expect that they would have done it earlier to clear ipod stock, assuming that the ipods will be updated in 6 days time.

I'm holding out getting my MBP untill Leopard is released, also i might wait untill the next MBP update, possibly a GFX card revision, HD disk drive, operating system loaded on flash memory?

I did idealy want to replace my 3 year old 12" PB with the MBP before i start uni on September 23rd.

They did a back to school offer last year - free 1st gen ipod nano (just after the 2nd gen came out)

When I placed my order the apple rep was pretty certain that a back to school promo would start early Sept and that it would be ipod related.
At that point I was soooooo excited about getting a mbp that I just put the order in - but the delivery schedule is looking sooooo slow at the moment.

I guess I'm thinking that if they announce the leopard shipping date on the 5th then any orders place after the 5th would get a free leopard upgrade

yeah, ive litterally just come of play.com. ordered a 19" LG screen, some speakers, xbox VGA cable (saves bringing a TV to uni!) posters, just a load of random rubbish for uni. on a spending spree, time to spend the £3k ive saved up whilst working during my gap year!

I want a MBP now, right now! lol. Would be great if they give a release date for leopard on the 5th, ild be straight onto the phone and ordering my 2.4ghz 7200rpm MBP, will need to decide on matte or glossy though!

Interesting about the back to school offer over here, i wasnt aware of that. I have a 2nd gen nano, love it to bits, best ipod ever designed, but i like the look of a touch screen ipod, can replace my old 3rd gen 20gb ipod.

also you get a 3 year warrenty with HE purchases!

I think by cancelling your order cant do any harm you know, see what happens on the 5th, you can always re-place your order!

Thats what I'm tempted to do - but it does mean I probably would get a mbp till end of sept.....

I am in the exact same boat as yourselves - absolutely desperate for a Macbook Pro, will be my first Mac been wanting to get one for over 2 years now!

Just can't justify it when I no leopard is so soon! I mean thats £80 wasted for the sake of a few weeks/months?

If they announce its ship date on the 5th and do include upgrade coupons I would definately jump on board - especially if they do an iPod promo like you guys have hinted at. I remember last year litterally having filled the order form out when the promo was on, only to think better of it at the end.

Have a couple questions about the Higher Education discount - I notice its different if you just choose the further edu one or actually view the page from a Uni campus - what is the actual percentage off a MBP if I ring up? I'm in my third year at Uni, so have a student card e.t.c

Also you guys say you get Applecare free with HE? Where does it say this I can't find it anywhere?

Many Thanks!

i got a 14% discount on the price of mbp

I think you get a 3 year guarantee free - but if you want full applecare its £50 - which is a pretty good deal.

Sorry I thought Applecare was just a 3 year warranty? Whats the difference?

Sept 5 will almost definitely be an iPod-only event, as the August event focused specifically on Macs, so don't expect any upgrades to the MBP.

Leopard won't be released until late October, so if you need a new computer now, don't wait for Leopard.

However, if you feel that there will be a really good promotion, then go ahead and cancel.

I agree. iPod only event. They will not talking about anything about Mac or OSX. It just won't happen. iTunes, iPod, minor iPhone stuff. Nothing Mac related or OSX related. I think you are safe in keeping your order.

If somebody does change you can cancel you order on the 5th or if they already shipped it, if you don't open it and send it back within 14 days there is no charge.

Ive found that HE prices are pretty much the computer price excluding VAT. This also applies if you want to customise it. i.e. MBP 2.4ghz with 7200RPM drive = £1445 HE price.

as for the 3 year warrenty...

£58 to upgrade to Applecare, difference is telephone support, and if anything does go wrong, the courier is all payed for. Its a small price to pay when you are already dishing out this much cash!

iwork is £35!! apperture is around £90.

im deffinately getting iwork now that is had a spreadsheet app. the less windows apps the better!
