Should I change my Vista for new MBP?

Hi, my new 2.4 MBP will be here soon. I'm part of the MSDN Academic Alliance so I get every Microsoft app for free. I downloaded Vista 64 bit to prepare for my new MBP (Done so a month ago). I read somewhere that 32 bit is better for any computer with 4GB or less of RAM.

Considering I can just download the 32 bit version for free, would I be better doing so or just using my 64 bit version?

I don't quite understand how this works actually.

I need Windows to use Borland Studio Developer 2006 and play games.

Should I just download XP? I heard newer games need Vista for Direct X 10+.

Windows Vista 64-bit worked fine for me but Company of Heroes had strange performance issues on it while every other game was just fine. I'm back on XP 32-bit for gaming now.

A 64-bit operating system does offer advantages for computers with 4 GB or less of RAM. In most cases most users just want the greater memory addressing.

Why all of a sudden is the forum bombarded with Windows questions? There's a forum called "Windows on the Mac". This forum is for the MBP hardware, not the Windows OS that gets installed on it.

I'm sure someone will answer your question anyway but the mods needs to know what's going on.

I understand what you mean and would change the place if I could (Forgot about Windows forum, sorry) but you sure look like you despise Windows. You need to understand people like me need to do some stuff that Mac OS X simply cannot do.

People need to stop being OS X fanboys, Windows is still very functional if you know how to use it even if I prefer OS X by far for casual computing & design.

Now, back on topic, I should keep the 64bit version? BTW, it will stay at 2GB of RAM for a couple of months, until the price of those DDR 3 sticks goes down a bit.

I use Vista 64-bit exclusively on all my computers (well at the least the ones that can run x64)

my view

I have had Vista 64 on my Macbook Pro, Blackbook, and iMac. It works great.

As a Windows developer by day (and who DESPISES it in comparison to programming for Macs), I can tell you that *MOST* of the 64-bit issues have been resolved, drivers are much more available for it nowadays, etc. Stick with Vista 64.

(Even though i'm a Windows developer 50+ hours per week, I have to ask a serious question: what CAN'T you do on a Mac that you CAN on Winblows? Play games? Seriously, I do EVERYTHING in OSX. The fact that my work revolves around Windows makes me sick to my stomach.)
