I have an iphone 4 8gb. I brought it on Ebay and the buyer is legit (they told me it was their , not stolen). that was back in august.
So i factory unlock it so i can use overseas.
It worked for a while, i even used the unlock and jailbroken phone in the US. but something happenned (the itunes connect came out) i gave it to someone there but i have no idea what they have done to it. Now the phone can no longer be restored. One repair person when i came back to the us told me there is no imei or whoever i gave it to was trying to change the imei and it can no longer work on any network.so the phone is useless.

Should i send it to Apple? i tried contacting the owner but no answers and ebay rules states after 90 i can't contact the seller on an item.
Anybody has a suggestion or is the phone toast?

Go here and punch in your serial number.
https://expresslane.apple.com/ProductSelector.action
It will tell you if its still covered under warranty.
I dont know what the person you gave it to has done to it but obviously its not the person that sold it to you on ebay responsibility. If it worked fine for months then either something software or hardware wise went wrong or the person you gave it to repair it messed it up.
If its out of warranty apple will replace the phone for $149.
If its still under warranty it should be free unless when Apple inspects it they figure out someone opened it up and messed with it.

i don't think it is still under warantee. i am just afraid to go to apple and get into legal probleme with all the jailbroken, unlocking that happened with the phone. i have the ebay receipt from the seller.

talk to who ever you gave it too find out what they did to it.. I think they are your problem. if it's been tampered with in any way jailbroken tampered with then Apple will deny the warranty. If the person you gave it to tampered with it you are out with the seller and ebay.

i just check the serial and it is no longer under warranty. i am back in the state, i don't have any contact with the person i gave to overseas.
i guess i will take my chances and send to apple and see what they say. i know for sure it was jailbroken and factory unlock. he definetely tampered with it

would apple refund you the repair cost if they refused to repair your phone?
