Is anyone having issues using a time capsule as their itunes library and using that with Apple TV? Should I go with a firewire HD instead of TC?

The reason I ask is because iTunes and ATV have been acting odd recently - I currently have over 100 files that I can't play which were playing fine on ATV just last week, and random copying of music and video keeps happening between itunes and ATV.

I've actually removed my Time Capsule from the network for a few days to see if its been causing some problems on my Apple TV. I used to have the Apple TV patched in to the Time Capsule directly (although my iTunes library wasn't on the TC HDD) and I was having problems with stuttering video which I noticed seemed to coincide with the drive in the TC being active. Even though there were no Time Machine backups in process at the time, the drive seemed to be doing something and I'm trying to eliminate it as a source of the problems.

What error message are you getting when you say the ATV can't play files which were OK last week?

I am getting 'File not found' even though I can play it fine in itunes and ATV had no problem last week. I also get "this cannot be played on apple tv" even though the same file played on ATV last week.

btw, do you think it would be wise for me to connect the ATV directy to the TC?

Have you tried a reboot of the ATV? Does that cure the problem, even temporarily?

The ATV was restarted today after it finally informed me of the recent update. sadly, it's wiped most of the content and itunes is now in the process of copying 1 of 83 video files back to it. I've noticed that itunes keeps forgetting that the Time Capsule is where my library is and reverts back to the usual place in the New User folder on the Mac's HD. I don't know what to do next, I dunno how helpful it would be to show it to the local genius bar, seeing as it's a possible problem with three pieces of kit.
