some areas on the screen appears warm colour (yellow patches).
diagnose could be the LCD or the motherboard backlight issue.

if found that the LCD is faulty, replacement would cost me $223. but if its the latter issue, that would cost be between $180 to $220.

would u fix the IPP given that everything is still working well or would u get a new/refurbished unit?

Depends on your finances or desire to get a new model. For the amount it cost to replace it I bet you could get the same money as a trade in from Apple then use it to buy a newer iPad if you want…

I would buy refurbished. I am just not comfortable, to repair a device which were built with high precision. I have experienced repairing Macbook in Apple, it even came with uneven screw - which I end up selling it. But, that's only me.

I don't think you could get a trade-in from Apple with a unit that is not fully working correctly. If I'm wrong, let me know! I think you can get an estimate from Apple online, including indicating what condition it is and it will tell you what, if any, value it would provide.

Is the 3rd generation the A12Z?

I'm not sure I would get it fixed at this point. While they still perform great, Apple is relegating it to life-support status in terms of software updates. It's missing a bunch of the cool features from the last couple of years.

Have a look at the sold prices on eBay to see how much it's worth in its present condition (for parts) and how much a fully working example would fetch. The spec will make a big difference to that - the higher it is the more sense it makes to get it repaired as the costs are the same.

One other consideration would be the condition of the battery and whether that's likely to need replacing.

No way in @#$% I'd sink that kind of $$$ into an iPad of that age, especially with the possibility of the repair "not going as planned" and possible issues later. If it's working properly (despite the yellow patches) see what you can get on trade for a newer model.
