Hello,

I'm new here, and I've fast-read the forum rules and several posts about iPad Pro, I tend to buy it as a self-gift for this Christmas.

Here're my some concerns about iPad,

I love the iPad Mini, however, iPad mini seemed to be dead since they haven't got any updates since 2015, iPad mini is lightweight and easy to carry, use with one hand. Because I think it's dead so I decided to move to that bigger one, however, why buy 9.7 while you can have 10.5 just for 1-2 centimeters bigger. Thus, I afraid that Apple would release "the new iPad pro mini" or somehow next year? May be March?

My hands are a little bit sweaty, so I can't use touchID in most cases :( so I found faceID is a very necessary function for me, but I wonder will Apple update their iPad lines with FaceID?

Furthermore, I'd saw many comparisons about A10X and A11 bionic, The next iPad Pro would be a massive update in Performance.

And the Pencil, I don't know why but I saw it dumb, I've tried it and It's magnificent, but the design is very ugly for me.

Finally, the experience when typing on iPad? Since you can quickly jot down with apple pencil? If it's necessary to buy one Keyboard, maybe I'd choose the Logitech separate keyboard.

Summarize my question:

I'd love iPad mini, will they update it in near future?
Is this a good time to buy iPad pro 10.5, I'm afraid that I'd be outdated in near future. As the A11 bionic is a very powerful chip. And Ipad Pro 10.5 already last 6 months in the market.
Apple Pencil?
Keyboard?

Furthermore, could you guys share your reading/working experiences with iPad pro? Can It open ETABS, CAD,... files? To view when you abroad, or reading books, manga,...

Thank in advance.

Just to put another perspective to that 9.7 vs 10.5 iPads. For a lot of people it’s not the size, it’s the cost vs benefit analysis. The 9.7 is way cheaper than the 10.5 and for people who don’t need the pencil and don’t care about the laminated screen the saving makes a lot of sense. That includes me.

I’ve got the 10.5, upgraded from the mini 4, which replaced my old iPad 3...
I’m really liking the 10.5 and it suits my needs to a tee. You should go in and try them to see which one fits your needs and if not you can always take it back and get something else.

I’ve had all models of the iPad. If you like the mini form factor, wait for a newer mini model. The 9.7” is a nice size but you’ll find it rather large. The 10.5” you’ll find absolutely huge and the 12.9” is just ridiculous especially with the 2nd gen reduced bezels.

If you can wait, keep waiting for a newer mini model or a refreshed 10.5” line.

I found the Mini great until I purchased the plus size models of the iPhone. I found I never used my Mini after that. Then Apple released the Air 2 which worked great in getting back to a larger screen iPad. I bought the 9.7 Pro a few years ago due to the ability to use the Pencil, and I got sucked in.....LOVED it and used it often. I have since upgraded to the 10.5, it is similar enough size to the 9.7 that it and the cover fits in my old Waterfield designs sleeve that I have used for years with no problems. I wanted the bigger screen of the 12.9 but that size was WAY too big for the portability. The 10.5 worked as a perfect compromise to get the form of the 9.7 with a larger very usable screen size.

Go to the store, play around with each version side by side back and forth and see how you feel about each one. Ultimately that always helps me make my decisions.

Agreed. A much bigger iPhone X style device should be coming next year that could perhaps replace the mini form factor.

Sadly it won’t be anywhere near as ‘cheap’ as a Mini.

Money isn't a problem here, I just wanna a decent experience, but it's really worth to think about the cost leap, however, I think that I've made my own mind about 10.5 iPad.

Oh, Do you read or watch videos, manga/comics on the iPad Pro well? I think the reason I prefer the iPad mini 4 is I have many A4 and B5 notebook for my classes, which perfectly fit in many iPad Mini Bags.

I've seen the 12.9' before, It just feels like you're holding an iOS-Touch screen-Keyboardless Macbook which really isn't cool. Plus my hands are small lol :)

I've used iPhone 7+ several months, however, I find it isn't easy to carry in your jeans pocket, I switched to the SE and it awesome. I haven't touched the iPad Pro 9.7 yet(-bc it was out of stock), however, the salesman at my app store told that it has the same size as normal iPad.

I’d buy one if you can get a super great deal. The 2017 iPad Pros’ A10X is actually not too far off from the A11 in specs. But if you can wait, I think next years iPad (or after that) will be even better, most likely it will be redesigned, given A11X, iPhone 8 Camera specs, Face ID, little to no bezels, Bluetooth 5.0, improved speakers, better Apple Pencil input (Apple Pencil 2) and an even better refresh rate/ProMotion making even lower pencil latency. Maybe even as low as 10-15ms compared to this years 20ms (which is amazing, but Apple always out-do themselves each year.)

I sold mine last week, was missing it so I bought the non pro ($250 BF deal) as a temporary replacement. At this point I would wait for the new Pros, or at least for a super nice deal on the current models. Apple pencil could see an update in the next year so honestly I'd just wait it out for now.

Nooooo... that’s what makes it super awesomely cool, though it sounds like not what you’re looking for. It depends where it fits in your personal ecosystem. For me, the 12.9 is an ultra-lightweight and portable laptop replacement (I like to travel a lot, without checking bags, but want something big for video conference with a whiteboard, which is how I work—online teaching.). But I still kept my iPad Air 2, which I use for other things, including as a replacement for books and other paper materials to reference while I’m teaching on the 12.9.

For around-the-house game playing (not super complex games), I usually use the Air 2. That’s the one I would carry around and set on different surfaces while cooking, doing hair and makeup, etc. For internet browsing, either the Air or the Pro. The bigger screen of the Pro is really nice for my not-so-great eyes, so if I’m doing a ton of reading, that’s usually what I would pick. But if I want to read or watch something while lying down, the Air 2. If I’m going somewhere overnight and only want to take one of them, I’d pick the 12.9. If I’m running out to an appointment where I’ll have to wait around and want to play a game/browse the web, I throw the Air 2. Into my purse.

I second on this. Next year iPad will have Face ID and closer design to iPhone X. The redesign will bring new experience of using the iPad. I am so excited about the new design and glad that I am holding my purchase for 2017 iPad Pro. If you can wait, just wait.
