i am going to college in less than a week, i have a laptop(vaio fs660w)-not getting rid of- i have the money but im worried that if i get this, then i won't have enough money to be fully equipped in college.
im looking at the education discount, the 1.42 ghz, 512RAM, built in airport, which will come to $579

-I have never had a mac before and since my deisred major is computer science and i want to get a job at apple when I get out of college(PLEASE DO NOT POST ON THAT, I DO KNOW IT IS HARD TO GET A JOB THERE) it is a good idea, problem is, money, i have the monitor, keyboard, and mouse-now that the mighty mouse is like a windows mouse but with the 360 degree click wheel-

so the answer is, should I go to my nearest apple store and get asap or wait

From a career perspective, you should probably get your hands on a Mac as soon as possible. However, from a current-life-situation perspective, you might wanna leave off if you're a bit low on funds considering you'll be keeping the laptop.

All up, I'd recommend grabbing one since you can sort of justify it as an educational tool. Every extra year you have with OSX will increase your chances of getting that elusive job at Apple. :)

As long as you've got the money, I'd say go for it. If you're anything like me, you'll quickly get to where you don't like using your Windows machine anymore (haven't even booted mine in weeks).

While Mac Minis are a great deal, they are still budget computers. Since you have limited funds and a working computer, I would recommend holding out until you can afford to get a better model like an iBook or an iMac. That said, if you buy a Mac Mini, have them max out the RAM when you buy it. We have a number of Mac Minis with the minimum RAM and they are excruciatingly slow for the 1± ghz processor they contain.
