i'm not sure how loud it's suppose to sound, but mine sounds pretty low, even the phone's speaker up top seems low as well. Not sure if this can be fixed by a software update or if i should return it for another one. Thing is i already put a screen protector on mines and i don't want to waste time if i get another unit thats the exact same volume or worse. Not sure if this is the case with all the iphones that have been sold. I only have one, so i can't compare or see how loud the 2 built in speakers on the phone are suppose to be... the top speaker, i have it on full blast, and on the other end, my party sounds low, and hard to hear especially in noisy environments... sigh. I don't know what I should do, any advice? and i really need my phone, i dont want to be without it if they decide to ship it somewhere. I just want a brand new replacement if possible. But if i can avoid this all together, that would be even better. Please tell me everyone else is also facing the same low volume noise coming out of their speakers.

I'm on my second iphone (first one had battery issues) and both have very low volume on both speakerphone and regular speaker when using the phone. The only volume that is loud and clear for me is the headset and my bluetooth. I've compared to other phones at my local apple store and they all sound the same too. Apparently apple thought the iphone was loud enough. In a quiet room or the library everything is fine, but everywhere else, even when it's in my pocket it's far too quiet for me. Hopefully this is fixable via a software update.
IMO, this phone should have 2 speakers. Volume can never be too loud, as it can always be adjusted down. All my previous phones (mostly motorola phones) put this phone to shame volume wise.

mrtune, that sums it up for me, ok i guess i'm not the only one facing these issues, seems like most if not all the iphones are like this from the factory. well lets hope there will be a software update that addresses these speaker volumes on the phone. Because the bluetooth and wired headset volumes are fine, its only those 2 speakers where I find them to be low...

My iPhone Speaker is also very low. It seems to be like the phone I had prior to my last phone where the volume was very low. When I got my last phone the speaker was much louder (LG 8000). The salesman said it was because it had an amplified speaker (i.e. in the hardware).
Does anyone know if the iPhone has an Amplified Speaker and it is just a software issue? Or did the salesman not know what he was talking about in regards to Amplified vs not Amplified Speaker?

Yeah, you're not the only one. I have seen many threads here from other members with the same issues. As far as i'm concerned, in apple's quest for secrecy with this phone, there probably wasn't enough testing in real world scenarios with respect to volume.
There are a few members here that say the volume is plenty loud, i think they simply have better hearing than the rest of us, lol.

many people complaining of the same thing, including myself. Low ear volume, low speakerphone volume and muddy. Really hope this is fixable via update. It's my main complaint to an otherwise great experience so far. My apple store simply said "it's within spec" and sent me on my way.

I have the same problem. I am sending mine in. The Apple support people I talked with claim there are some phones with bad speakers that affect speakerphone and ring volume, but is OK whn playing video or music. Mine seems t fall under that category. Music volume is OK, but not very good quality of course, but the speakerphone is definatley unusable and it is difficult to hear the ringtone in your pocket or form more than 20 feet away. They indicated that these "bad" phones fall under certain ranges of serial numbers, but they were unable to tell me thos numbers. They claimed that mine would be tested. If it could be "fixed" they would do so. If it could not be "fixed" they would replace it.
I am skeptical and think all of the phones suffer from this problem, but who knows. It is worth a try and will be interesting to watch. I will keep you posted in case anyone is interested in how this turns out. I think I have a sound pressure meter at home and will do some tests on my phone, record the numbers and then re-test after it comes back form Apple. Just the Monk in me....
