should i get an imac....

man, yesterday i had my eyes wholeheartedly on a shiny new imac (the was refurbed :p) but i got this couch in my room and it just feels sooo nice surfing the internet and watching tv on it that i started thinking..man i think i want a notebook, but im getting an iphone in 2 weeks and i though....humm i could just surf the net on my iphone using the wifi in my house......does any one have any comments on the horrid delima im in!!! :p

Personally I would get the notebook. If you're going to buy laptop parts, you may as well get portability for your money. That being said I have an iMac G5 1.8Ghz which I ended up being not so happy with because of it's 5200FX garbage card. Things are different these days though, even the 2600 is placed squarely in the mid range if you don't want to pay for the 8800.
 
I have a 2.0 ghz core duo imac and i love it. Best computer I ever had. If you have enough money for a Macbook pro, get that but otherwise, the iMac is your best bet.
 
What will you be using the Mac for? If it's mostly web surfing, music, photos, etc then get the MacBook. It'll be fast enough for basic tasks. Get the iMac if you really need the extra power for specific tasks.
 
umm..

i would be using it for logic studio, and keynotes and stuff for school, i wanted the MBP b.c of the graphics card but its 1000 more...so thats a bummer...maybe for college i think right now im going to either get the imac or a macbook....
 
I agree with the poster earlier who said that if you are paying for laptop parts then don't you want the mobility too?

A macbook is a powerful machine and would be great, and its always fun having the mobility.

Yeah but then computer games go out the windows altogether. If you'll be playing any games, get the iMac. And as another poster said above, imac with wireless keyboard+mouse...basically like having a laptop. Plus a lot more power.

But the imac has dedicated graphics, a faster processor, and a 3.5" HD. It's considerably more capable than even the MBP, and it simply blows the MB away, regardless of what you want to classify the parts inside it as.

FWIW, I'm soon going to be selling my MB and going to an imac. It'll be the first time in a long time I'm all desktop (finally done with school), and I'm really looking forward to it. The macbooks are nice, but they really can't compare in terms of power. Moreover, I'm looking forward to the silent operation of the imac because my macbook's fan goes on at the drop of a hat, and it's quite loud!
 
i say get the imac.... watching tv on it will be heaps better than macbook. and as someone said earlier u can get wireless keyboard and mouse and have versatility. and if you end up wanting to do more stuff on a computer the imac will handle it better.
 
Or you could get the MB and hook it up to your TV, and get wireless keyboard and mouse...

yeah....i had planned on hooking up the macbook to my 37" HDTV in my room, however, to my dismay it does not have a VGA port on it!! so i dont know how i would be able to do it, where the screen actually looks good and not all pixelated...(i cant spell that correctly) i already have Tv on my TV so i wouldnt be watching tv on it unless im watchin shows on the internet which then would be nicer if i could hook it up to the HDTV but i dont know how i dunno...i think i might get the Imac right now just to finish out high school b.c a refurbed 20" imac is 949 on apples website and i will go with a MBP for college and have both an imac and a MBP! lol i dunno....
 
I was going through the same deabte - 24" iMac or MBP? I settled on the iMac since I've really been using my laptop as a desktop for the past 4 year anyways. I realise that you can attach an external monitor to the MBP pretty easily, but I really didn't want to blow that much money on one purchase haha.

It should be getting here on Wednesday or so, so I'll let you know what I think of my very first Mac :D
