For a little background info, I put about 50k miles on my truck a year driving to jobs. And I have been debating getting a 16g Ipad for my truck as a stereo. My questions are as follows.

Has any heard of Sirius making an Ipad Adapter for there Antenna?

Is there a true Ipad Vehicle holster/cradle? Other then Velcro:rolleyes:

Has anyone heard of Garmin or anyone else making a gps antenna that plugs into the Ipad??

Why an iPad instead of an iPod? For Pandora via 3g? If you want to play your iTunes library, an iPod is a more practical choice.

The iPad 3G's GPS is pretty good. And there are a number of car iPad mounts, I've seen 2 or 3 topics about it in the accessories forum.

Maybe he wants a bigger screen. I have perfect eye vision but I refuse to use my iPhone as a navi or media player device because the screen is just too small. Needs a bit more finger precision just to navigate through the UI as well.

He didn't mention any uses other than "stereo" - if GPS is part of the plan, that would be an argument in favor of an iPad, since the larger screen is useful for that.

But for just music, I'd get a stereo head that works with iPods and run a USB cable to the back of the stereo. I use my 64gb touch that way, it works pretty well, though for navigating between playlists, I still prefer actually doing that on the iPod instead of using the stereo interface.

Because I already have an Iphone and pay for the service and I want a large display that I can actually read.

Every one of your questions has it's own answer in it's own thread all on the first page.

would you mind posting those relevant threads? I Googled car cradle/sirius Ipad antenna and Garmin Ipad and wasnt able to find anything. That is why I asked if anyone has heard of products that might be coming out.

I have only found one car mount and it was on Ebay for $199. That seemed a little much

I already have a clarion in my truck that I plug my Iphone into. I am trying to get away from having to plug anything in. When you plug an Iphone/Pod into most stereo's that have an (Ipod Cable) you lose the ability to control the ipod/phone from the respective product.

If you need to come to a forum and ask whether you should buy something then chances are you don't need it.
You have an iPhone and pay for service, you're already justifying why not to get one. If you need a random stranger to tell you what to do then no, you should not buy.

Wow thanks for the gracious reception from the Mac/Apple Forum.

I didnt come to a forum and ask whether I should buy something. My Thread Title said should I get one, and from that I asked my questions. No where in the body of my OP did I ask Should I Buy an IPAD. My exact words were ( I have been debating getting a 16g Ipad for my truck as a stereo). Please explain to me how owning an Iphone (Justifies not getting an Ipad?) I dont remember saying, Hey random stranger please tell me what to do.

I asked a couple of simple questions pertaining to the Ipad.

So why does the thread title read "should I get one"

If I knew you in person I'd hug you, no lie.

Nice reference. How about "haven't seen you in years" and we'll see where it goes. Remember, I'm just as snarky in person.

sounds good.

If you know of any publications pertaining to the aforementioned questions I would be interested in reading them and doing my own research. I have been loosely following the Ipad and its role if any in my day to day activities. I think the Ipad would be a great interface in my truck for things like e-mail,Gps,Sirius,Audio books.

I am aware that my iphone already does all of these tasks, and I live off my ipone. But the screen is a bit small to work with while driving.

As you say, don't buy an iPad, get one.

Get a 64GB 3G.

Everybody should get one if they can do so without having to buy it.

If I always had 3G service then I would consider a 3G Ipad. But since I drive so much I am going in and out of service. I cant be driving for 2hrs without Sirius or Gps. Heck when I was working over in VT last year I was lucky to be able to make a call, dont even think of any data usage.

The iPad is a great GPS and because the programing is dynamic coupled with the devices CPU power over time it will surpas the functionality of even the high end car manufacturer units.

Welcome to Macrumors, and don't mind the hostility and cynicism. Some people here consider the anonymity of the Internet to be a good reason to be rude. Ignore them. It's not worth even acknowledging them. :)

I have not heard of a Sirius adapter but have heard of a Sirius app that would presumably stream music via wifi or 3G.

I have also seen some custom vehicle setups but not an ipad specific one. I am guessing some laptop/netbook cradles "might" work. I even saw someone customize their dashboard to allow placement and give it a built in look. Neat.

Because of your travels i would definitely recommend a 3G. Good luck!

The gps will work without 3G signal, but Sirius likely not. You can always download music to the ipad for those dead spots. :D

You will also want to buy a navigation app (like Copilot HD) that doesn't need a connection, as the maps are all resident in you iPad.

Having the 3G will at least increase the areas you will have access as opposed to wifi only.

Im still not sold on having another 3G service plan, considering how sparse there 3G coverage is :p

I'll have to look into the copilot HD. your right sirius doesnt work well unless its 3G it will work intermittently in E, but its not a good stream.

3g or Edge should be available most of the time unless you're in truly remote places.

That map in your link is just a map of ATT's Voice coverage.

There 3G is very sparse the blue is the 3G coverage, ATT doesn't supply a 3G map anymore on there website.
