Hi guys, after hearing so many comments on the inferior quality of the MBA LED screen, I doubt if I should get the Air now or wait till Apple reveals a remedy/change the manufactured screen.

You should learn to read better. The quality of the MBA screen is superior compared to the MacBook and probably up there with the MBP.

Get an MB Air now if you need/want.

No doubt the MBA screen is superior when compared to Macbook. Have you read the threads on the MBA Rev2 screen problem - Thin grey lines appearing across the screen. I am comparing the screen of the Rev1 and Rev2 MBAs.

Good Grief. It's not bad like you think. You really should see it for yourself. I have the new Rev B Air and the lines are extremely faint. Obviously you've read this forum long enough to know that the forum members make mountains out of molehills. There are no public blogs about the screen having faint lines. It's just a bunch of nitpicking geeks on this forum that would still complain if they got a perfect computer from Apple for FREE. Let it go, don't allow this to scare you from your purchase. Nothing here scares me.

Apple is responsible for any defect, small or large. If you receive a screen with the faint horizontal lines, just get it replaced.

The line thing seems to be a bit of hype and not occurring throughout the entire line. But either way, the choice is entirely yours.

When you ask for an exchange due to defects, Apple is likely to replace your HW with the refurbish set (similar to the way iPhone 3G got replaced in Singapore due to yellow-tinted screen). My friend experienced 3 replacements for the same piece of product he purchased. I would rather get the first set right than going thru all the hassle. Comeon Apple, manufacture your products in Japan - their production goes through vigorous QA before shipping out to the consumers.

Then it just boils down to this: either you are willing to take the risk of a hassle, or you wait indefinitely for Apple to fix the screen issue. Not really sure what the point of this topic was, since you seem to already know this. Unless you're waiting for someone to come with news about the screen issue, in which you should probably sift through the huge topic labeled "Horizontal lines" in the MBA forum.

In typical MacRumors fashion an isolated problem get's blown out of proportion.

I own both revisions I don't have lines on the screen. Not everyone has the issue. I think this is a great place for information, but if you let it sway your purchase decisions then you are just looking for an excuse not to buy.

I'd wait until they fix the screen problem for real, and maybe even offer 1440x900 resolution like the competition. If they make the bezel thinner, they could easily fit a 14" LCD with that resolution in there.

It ain´t easy. I´d go for an MBA immediately, but because of the "thin lines" - issue i hesitate.
The thing is: i´d buy on developer discount; according to apple´s conditions you cannot give back items bought on that discount. I really would hate to have a crappy screen, dead pixels or something like that an couldn´t even replace the item in case of.

That would go for any Apple product. By that tact, you won't be buying an Apple notebook anytime soon. To get a guaranteed 100% product, it ain't gonna' happen.

BTW, I have both Gen. 1&2 Airs and the screens are extremely close to each other in performance and I have NO LINES.

Are you saying that MBA1's screen is a bit better?

No, I'm saying they're very close to each other. There is no better or worse and so close that they fall within a reasonable amount of deviation coming from the same product line. One might have a bit more blue but they're so close -can't tell. Not even worth doing a calibration- it's that small.

I think the displays are brilliant - if there´s no fault. But what if? When buying with develper discount, you´re screwed up...?

There's nowhere on the developer website that states that if you buy an Apple product that has defects it cannot be exchanged.

to be honest, the developer discount on the macbook air here in Canada is pitiful. So i'm not sure how worth it, it is for you to use it to get a macbook air.

Where you really get significant discounts with the developer pricing is on macbook pros and mac pros.

Since it's a once in a lifetime thing, are you sure you want to use it on a macbook air????

Got my MacBook Air last week. Love it to tears. No lines. Awesome buy and well worth it. Not everyone had line issues in their MBA purchase, so that shouldn't be a factor in your product consideration.

G'luck with that tough decision ;)

If it has undoubted faults, Apple will of course exchange. But dead pixels or a disputed display are no clear fault, so i don´t think they would exchange.

You can choose the discount once a year (as long as you´re a select member or higher).
I´m indeed not sure what config to choose: the MacBook Pro is a little bit too bulky, the MBA is not really suitable as No. 1 Machine. So, MBA + MBP + some good display would do the job, although i´d prefer only one single machine. Unfortunately the MacBook Air with the power of the MacBook Pro hasn´t been invented yet :)

I got my set and it has the faint gray lines - Can see them under white background without the need to strain my eyes. Oddly, I have the 4 fingers swipe.
