Hi guys,

I've been really wanting and saving up for a white magic keyboard for my ipad air. I've considered the logi combo touch but I figured that I'm really attracted to the sleek design and functions of the magic keyboard even though it's considerably more expensive.

I wanted to ask for an opinion if it's okay to buy one for myself as a christmas present, or is it better to wait for a redesign or an upgrade next year? I read an article about the patent on the magic keyboard, a possible redesign although im aware that they may not release it.

I'm just worried that I might be impatient and end up liking the next release (which could be early next year hopefully?). I still want the floating design but hoping for other color options, and a more flexible writing mode, more angles and maybe a space for the apple pencil in the case.

What do you guys think?

Thanks so much

I think it's good to be good to oneself during the holidays and it's nice to give yourself a present too.

It sounds like you're leaning more toward waiting, and I think you'll make a better decision if you do. Hopefully the timeline isn't too far into next year.

Have you seen the Magic Keyboards in person or tried one? There are some good threads here about their pros and cons, which you may have read through. There are a lot of factors and it will be interesting to see what the next version looks like. I'd like to see the floating keyboard idea evolve. Then there's the white versus black discussions.

Some people--and I'm one of them--don't like the MK's material, that it scuffs and gets dirty easily. I went from an MK to the Smart Folio Keyboard (which has the same material), and then to the Combo Touch, which what I really love. I never think about the material, it's easy to keep clean, has a row of function buttons, and it's been a pleasure to use.

I can’t see any redesign of the Magic Keyboard for a while yet given they’ve just done the new colour and the fact it now works with the Air too, not to mention how backwards compatible it is with the larger cutout.

Ikm also not sure they’d change any features either - the Logitech one is very different in its approach so I think the two different keyboards will coexist As they cover all bases for consumers really.

What you use your ipad for. I got the magic keyboard. But was looking at the combo touch and after having it i think the combo touch might be the better product. The magic keyboard looks better. But has a very limited use case

I ordered one for my 12.9 inch 5th gen a few days ago from Walmart (held my nose) marked down to $229. Holdover from Cyber Monday pricing I think. For that price, great deal.

Get it now if you need it. I have it and it is amazing. If a new model comes out, and you want the new model, you can sell the one you have and buy the new one. Bottom line you had the keyboard for one year and you used it...

Apple may change the materials they use for the next iPads but Im guessing the footprints will stay the same.

But then again its apple….

Personally I really want them to up the sizes of the iPad Pros a bit. Like an 11.5 and a 13.5. Seeing as how these are pretty much peoples main computers now (Especially with the magic keyboard) then can reserve the smaller sizes for the Air and the mini.

I’d love to see a larger iPad Pro!

Considering how the new rumored ipads are supposed to drop in March, we have to wait and see if they will completely redesign them to warrant a new updated keyboard or change at some rate.

Do not get it. I took great care of mine and there are black scuff marks all over the place.
