Should i get this gaming laptop?? (Y50)

I have a rMBP and it is actually quite good for gaming. I bootcamp windows 8 and can run any game i want but its starting to show its age with new AAA games.

Lenovo is having a pretty big back to school sale on their site and the Y50 ultra HD (see pic for specs) looks pretty promising. How much of an increase will i see with this new PC/GPU(GT960m 4gb) over my current rMBP(GT650m 1gb)?? Will i be able to run new AAA games on high?? how much longevity does that GPU have?

The 960M is the best bang for the buck GPU you can get in a notebook right now. It should have no problem running current and future games at 1080p and high settings for at least 2-3 years. Older games could run well at 4K resolution if they support such an option. If the price is right, don't hesitate to pull the trigger.

A lot of the Lenovo reviews of the Y-series have complained about the screens. I used to have a Y-500 with dual GPUs. Liked everything about it, except the screen wasn't that great either. Keyboard, speakers, everything else was awesome though.

Ya I read into that. It looks like it was somewhat resolved when they updated the 1080p version with the IPS display. I still see complaints about the 4k version though due to its TN panel
 
I have a Yoga 2 Pro with the QHD display. It's not bad, not great. The rMBP's screen is definitely superior, but given the Y50's otherwise excellent hardware and much lower price, it's a worthwhile tradeoff if gaming is important to you.

I'm thinking about it but don't think desktop would be good for me. I like the portability of a laptop. Not having so set it up or take it down if I ever go somewhere with it
 
I just bought 3 Asus Zenbook Pro for streaming. Nice kit, should be able to game with it although, I haven't tried any yet. Running Win10. I don't think it mentions it, but they are touch screen. I like how it puts smiles on peoples faces when you reach up and tap something.

To be clear, I'm typing on my MBPr right now. I have the zenbooks to loan out and for farm work.

I guess my concern is that if you want to do light/medium gaming on the go, you've already got your MacBook Pro. If you want to blister some framerates then you can use a desktop.

The problem really with other laptops is that, in some form or another, they will have compromises on quality. I really don't think there's a laptop out there that will give you an experience or design synonymous with that of the rMBP. I'm just concerned that no matter what you buy, you will be disappointed in some regard.

Just my $0.02 though, if you've got your heart set on a gaming laptop there are definitely some good suggestions in this thread.

good points. Ill have to look into it more. the asus zenbook looks promising though.

Question- is the rMBP the $2500 model with dedicated graphics or a lesser model MBP?
