I am 'this' close to heading down to my local Apple Store to get an iMac 27. I am wondering if they will open it in the store and check for issues like dead pixles, yellow screen and such. The store is so noisy I don't think it would be possible to hear any issues with excessive fan/hdd noise though. Is this a good idea or should I just bring it home and hope for the best?

People have done this because of the yellow tint etc. If they allow you to do that, sure, go ahead. It might save you a trip or two. Try to go when it's more quiet like noon or early afternoon.

Odds are if you go into the purchase expecting to find an issue with your iMac you most likely will find something wrong with it.

I'm sure that most users are perfectly happy with their machines that they wouldn't even think of having to do something like what you are suggesting.

Sounds like you've been given the heebie-jeebies by the MRF fear mongorers!

Honestly, I'm not that worried about having an issue. I just figured if it was common place to have them checked out I would do so. I live very close to the retail store and am confident Apple will take care of me if there happens to be an issue.

Based on what I've read on here, the 27'' seems to have fewer issues. Granted, that may mean fewer people are buying the 27'' but who the hell knows really.
