Should I invest in a new G5 now?

new powermacs wont come out until Fall at the earliest so if you NEED one now then I would go for it. And if you're gonna be doing heavy photoshop/video editing I would highly recommend the G5.
What are your needs and budget?
If either is small enough, an iMac might be perfectly sufficient.

Another reason is there are plenty of people out there using them and there's a lot of support. The Intel-PowerMac's will be new and you will be on the bleeding edge, with little support, not a good idea if you want to stay in business.
I do video editing and some graphics work. I've been getting a couple of gigs recently and my G4 just seems to slow. I can't even use Motion 2 on here. So I need a G5, and I can make up the investment in a couple of months. I just don't wanna get screwed by buying a comp now, and then in a couple of weeks the new ones come out.
BTW, how much can I get for my G4 933Mhz machine and 19-inch CRT monitor?
It has 1GB Ram, 220GB HD, and tons of pro software.

Check with the makers of your software and make sure they have Intel or Universal binaries. You'll be very disappointed if you use an Intel Mac and Rosetta to run PPC versions of your software. Plus, you may have to repurchase all your software (not all companies are giving free updates). I really think the G5 may be for you.
My new G5
I just picked up a 17" G5 last week. In fact, it was from someone right here on the forum. I got a hell of a deal and for my needs, it's more than fine. I'm looking to pick up a new low end laptop, so I'm really curious about the new Macbook. I'll probably go for a leftover iBook as well.

Most photo and video editting software is not universal and the Intel PowerMac is at least 5 months away. If he buys a DC 2.3 or Quad now it will last him a long time. Also all the current software will run great on it. Even future software will run great on it.

Final Cut Suite is now universal, but many of the major music apps, and of course Adobe/Macromedias stuff are not Universal yet. The Quad is an amazing machine and it should hold you quite well over the next 3 years.
The apps you're using now will be amazingly faster and the Universal Binary updates should keep you reasonably current.
Save yourself some money an buy the Dell 2405 FPW 24" display.

Im in the UK and considering selling my 15month old 2GHz G5. It still has like 20months of AppleCare on it - and has 2.5GB of RAM. If you're in the STates, then Id think ud be better off buying from the refurb store - but if you're in the UK, PM me.
