I had a preorder for the 2021 12.9” iPad Pro minutes after it went live on Best Buy on 04/30, but with life issues abound, I decided to cancel. I then placed another order yesterday for another 12.9” iPP, but it looks like it might not reach my doorstep until July if reports are to be believed. Should I just cancel it altogether? Or get an 11” instead? I don’t know what to do now. I screwed myself by canceling my original preorder and now I seriously regret it.

Maybe try ordering from BB or another provider. They probably have smaller wait lists.

I would think a little harder about the initial reason you decided to cancel and decide if that was really a blessing or a curse. If you still want it, and think it's a sensible and feasible thing to purchase one, then I would try to secure an in-store pickup of the 12.9" on Friday. Don't compromise to the 11" (I say compromise because you clearly wanted the 12.9" - not because the 11" is an inferior product) just because of the delay in availability. Leave your July order in place and only cancel it once you've secured a faster method of obtaining the product.

The closest Best Buy is over an hour away, so picking it up wouldn’t work out too good. JSteele, I did preorder on Best Buy both times, so I am hoping and praying I can get it as soon as possible. I was really looking forward to this too. Such a shame. The wait is going to be unbearable.

Oh sorry, I meant an Apple Store in-store pickup. I think they're the most likely to get launch day in-store stock.

What is the color and storage configuration that you have on order, out of curiosity?

I don’t have an Apple Store in my area either.

The color is Silver and the storage is 128GB, though. Just the base model 12.9”.

I know in the past with consoles there has been a bunch of random retailers that I didn't even know they had electronics are selling them. Some that come to mind were like Pharmasave, Super Store and others. Also try Costco or i'm sure others can suggest other places. You will likely need to order online though for most of these and hope the wait list in small.

If you can, go to an Apple Store on 5/21 and try to buy one in person. Or on the morning of 5/21, see if you can order one for in store pick up to secure a unit.

I use an iPad Pro 11”, and it’s great, but if you are looking for that XDR display and a larger screen in general, I’d go for the 12.9”, even if it requires waiting.

Well nobody can tell you what’s best for you but you. If you need the 12.9 you’ll likely buy it at some stage. Fingers crossed whatever you end up keeping arrives quickly.

Buy it later on and just save up the money for a better model.

+1. If you really want the device, don't cancel your preorder until you actually have one in-hand. Personally, I don't mind a week or so wait so I'm just fine waiting for my Amazon pre-order.

Looks like CDW has some in-stock. Shipping's not free, though.

With the timing of getting your iPP seeming to have such a significant affect on whether you’re going to enjoy it or not, it doesn’t sound like you actually need it for any type of task it’s especially suited for. Honestly, and this isn’t meant as a personal attack, it seems that the caché of being an early adopter is what is important to you. (As a MessagePad and iPhone early adopter, I understand this attitude.) Unless those life issues are well under control, yeah, consider waiting (don’t think of it as canceling). One day you’ll just be able to walk into an Apple Store and out with the iPad of your choice.

If life issues happened to make you cancel then that’s a swift remarkable turnaround you made that you’re ready to preorder again. Pat yourself on back. That was a close one right? Now you’re all good.

But sure with a username like iPad bro you absolutely need this iPad. It’s not surprising you have serious regret. Everyone will be posting on Friday with their new iPads and what’s iPad bro got to say about it? I mean that sucks. Don’t let it happen. So what the nearest store is an hour away (was bfe bro taken?). You can do it.

I've rarely pre-ordered an iPad and always picked one up on launch day from the Apple store. They usually have them, or at least within a week or so, once they restock.

I purchased my 2018 iPad Pro at a local college bookstore. The store is open to anyone, not just those associated with the school.

Even if there is not a nearby store you might have a family member or friend who is or who has children who are students at a college with iPads in stock.

Evaluate if you need it or should wait 3-6 months.
What changed in terms of those major life issues that made you cancel the original order, (which sounds like a financial issue ) then weeks later you are ordering again? It is a major purchase for most people. Waiting may be smart. Or maybe you can find a great deal on an existing one.
