OK....I adopted Lion early, and kind of wish I hadn't.

Didn't put iOS 5 on my iPod Touch for a while, then when I did it was much less responsive.

Have an iPhone 4S with (iOS5) that keeps wanting me to put on 5.1 on BUT:

- I'm perfectly happy with the battery life and a little concerned by the people who have said it's made their worse.

- I can't see anything else in the features that I actually want.

Can anyone give me a compelling reason why I shouldn't just ignore the fact that 5.1 exists?

Sensible responses only please :)

If you're the type who takes out your iPhone to snap a quick picture, 5.1 is for you. As for battery life, my opinion is that 5.1 is better than 5.0.1. After full charge, my 4s could stay at 100% for quite a long while under standby mode. Well, every person has their own opinion on the battery lifespan.
What about Siri in Japanese? If you're keen in learning Japanese or happen to be Japanese, this could be a bonus. :D

In addition, Safari is much more responsive, faster too. Little bonuses show up in an overall smoother, quicker operating system. I'm pleased with the results even though it's not a "Gee Whiz" change.

Two things do it for me.

1) The afore mentioned quick access to the camera.

2) The ability to delete individual photo's in photostream! THAT makes the upgrade worth it right there!

I do like the speed in Safari, and overall my 4 seems a bit more responsive. My battery life is the same as 5.01, Meh!

I've noticed no downsides to 5.1 vs 5.0x.

On the upside, 5.0 between beta 3 and 5.01 (on 3g-s, and 5.0-5.01 release on a 4-s) crashed pretty reliably on some album artwork i had in my music library.

5.1 doesn't. it seems faster, too and my battery life is as good if not better.

go for it.

- I can't see anything else in the features that I actually want.

I've never understood why folks who aren't absolute experts in OS development think that they're qualified to dismiss the numerous bug and security fixes that are made in each release, and assume it's a good idea to just peruse the "features" list for stuff that strikes their fancy and either take or not take the update based on THAT.

Apple fixed more broken/dangerous stuff in 5.1 than they added as features. If you read that huge list of fixes that came with 5.1 and you weren't interested, you're probably the EXACT person who should be upgrading. If you read the list and you DO find those interesting, you should upgrade. If you didn't bother reading the list, you should really upgrade.
