I ordered our current phones from Verizon a few years ago and had the phones shipped to me. I then visited my local Verizon store and had them activated. Everything went very smooth. Is there any advantage in ordering directly from Apple?

I always get from Apple. They have all of your purchase info on file in their systems. You ever have an issue, you walk into an Apple store and hand it to them.

A lot of people prefer Apple. However, there isn't a huge difference. Returns are easier with Apple than most carriers which charge a restocking fee.

The problem that I have is there is not an Apple store located near me. I would have almost a 3 hour drive to an Apple store.

One advantage is that if you buy the SIM free version, you avoid the $30 "upgrade fee" that Verizon charges. Just pop your old sim in and self upgrade. Buy yourself a nice dinner with the money saved.

I had to return a couple of iPhones in the past to AT&T, and they charged a fee each time. i always get mine from Apple just in case I need to return the device since the carriers charge a restocking fee.

I’ve always had excellent customer service from Apple stores and mediocre customer service at Verizon stores, including when getting new phones.

Also, the Verizon store is more likely to hit you with hidden fees or other nasty surprises. With Apple, you know exactly what you’re getting and paying up front.
