so i am right now using an macbook pro 2019 16 inc laptop

specs
2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4 GB

these are the specs that I have for my MacBook 2019, I have been wanting an iMac for a while. I just don't travel with my laptop and therefore don't need a laptop anymore
I just do normal computer stuff with my laptop but I do game once in a while but the game I do play is wow only, I believe i posted the pic of my wow setting.

i guess my question is. should i upgrade or would this be considered a downgraded?

I would suggest you go ahead and buy that iMac :) The M1 iMac appears to be a good buy overall. I'm certain that you will experience a boost.

I can't say for sure about WoW or any other game of that caliber while using an M1 Mac. I haven't had the pleasure or experience of using an M1 Mac. The M1 MacBook Pro I played with in-shop in a Mac reseller called Humac here in Aalborg, Denmark seems about the same experience of macOS Big Sur as I can achieve on my current 2015 iMac - but there's not much to do a demo-model in-shop / in-store. I couldn't just bring in all my documents and Sketch files and just sit there.

Envy is huge from this chair..

Of course, you don't have to buy if you don't want to. Only you can prevent disastrous purchases.

As a famous poet once said; You can do it! (if you want to)

There's probably a lot to be said about buying a Mac mini and using an external monitor.. pricing and what not.

But the iMac is all that in a more lovely packaging. Then there's the whole desktop computer idea.

I would now prefer a M1 iMac over the Mac mini + external monitor deal. The primary thing is the display for me on that iMac.

I'd say save the money and get an 8GB UNIFIED MEMORY.

I also have the M1 Mini base (8GB) for the past 6 months and absolutely love it!

NO complaints moving from an Intel 16" MBP that I paid the reprehensible $2500 which I shouldn't have.

The M1 will blow away almost every Intel Mac out there!

Here's my take: test it out for 14 days - if you don't like the 8GB, then switch to the 16GB....

I think you should hold onto the MBP a few more years and not contribute to more consumption and industrial waste. That i9 still moves pretty damn well.

toss a nice screen on it and call it a day. The iMac (and AS chips) are only going to get better.

Overall performance is going to improve as the M1 runs circles even around Intel's i9 chips while staying cool and quiet. However, GPU and thus gaming performance is going to suffer when going from an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M to an integrated M1 GPU. It's not going to be a massive difference but it may be noticeable. I don't play WoW so I cannot comment on that game in particular.

I'm looking at upgrading from my 2007 iMac 21" to the 8Gb iMac 24", is there any drawback to not having 2 USB 3 ports? I can't think of any myself.
