Hey, I found a package deal that comes with a firewire external enclosure and a Wstern Digital 250gb IDE HD. The Hard Drive i have now inside my iMac is 160gb SATA, i believe from "About this Mac". Does it matter if you put an IDE instead of a SATA HD inside an enclosure to hook up to a mac? Will they both work the same? What is the difference?

here is the link to the package deal i'm looking at:

No. It doesn't make a difference. Get the enclosure and get the drive but don't try and put a SATA drive in the enclosure. ;)

What is the difference?

Non-technically, different connecters. Technically, somebody else can tell you that. :D

To be able to upgrade the internal hard disk, and put the old one in the enclosure, I would go with something like the TrayDock

Otherwise buy a FireWire/IDE enclosure, an IDE/SATA bridge board (for example the one here) and a SATA disk, as the only thing you're gaining with the TrayDock is the hot swap.

I'd prefer an enclosuse with a native FireWire/SATA bridge, but I don't know of any.
