Hello everyone!

I have the chance of selling my MBP intel base 2020 , replace it for an Air M1, and even getting 100 extra euros.

I just use it for YouTube and excels... what do you think? Is it worth it and a no brainer? Or should I keep it?

thanks!!

PS: I wrote this question on the MacBook Pro section, but I think here will be more accurate. Mods can delete the other one. Thanks!

I doubt you'll see much difference in either machine. Why not hold onto your laptop until it no longer is able to run your apps and then spend the money on the new laptop.

I get why its tempting, the M1 represents the future and there's always the FOMO with the new ARM laptops but your machine is new and there's really no reason to spend more money on something that you'll probably not see a huge impact on your day to day usage.

I'd say go for it if you can still return your MBP 2020, or keep it as long as it works. Because I noticed that resale value sunk for Intel models. I barely managed to sell my MBP 2019 couple weeks ago and even then much lower than they were sold just days before M1 release. Even then only couple interested buyers and all but one offered ridiculous low price. Looks like today situation is even worse and asking prices have gone down even more. So something to keep in mind if you care about resale value.
Usually Apple gear is easy to sell, I was amazed and already considered keeping mine.

As I said, with this deal I would even make 100 extra euros as profit. My main concerns are related to the quality of the M1 for being a 1st gen product, and maybe the display between a pro and an air.

The main thing that attracts me of the M1 is that superb battery that everyone is talking about...

Thanks all for the comments!

I dumped by 2020 13" 10th gen MBP and 2019 16" i9 MBP. I wanted to get rid of them before the prices crashed further.

I went when the base Air for now and will upgrade to a 14" with M1x/M2 SOC at some point.

Yes go for it. The screen on the new Airs is very good, a smidge less bright than the Pro but not very much in it. it runs very cool and the battery lasts ages.

This is a "no-brainer"! Do it fast while you still can. Intel macs are depreciating like yesterdays dish water. Dump it while you can!
