My daughter accidentally dropped one of my iPads (the 10.5”) and cracked the screen. It costs anywhere between $210-300 to get the screen fixed on this model. Should I replace the screen or get an 8th gen to replace it? My primary devices are my 11 and 12.9 2020 pros so I will still get the pro experience . Thanks in advance.

Get the 8th generation iPad Pro. Replacing the screen isn't worth it if you'll possibly end up getting white spots in the future.

Yup. In your situation I’d go for the 8th gen too. If you didn’t have any others I’d say get an 11 pro but you already do.

You can repair the screen? Not at Apple you can’t! They would just say that it would need to be replaced because the whole thing would need to be cracked open no?

I’d just check extended warranty etc. And get as much $ you can out of the device and upgrade. Sucks but that is what warranties are for

There are places around here that repair the screens. I think $280 though to repair the screen on a device that’s been out for a few years though is outrageous.

I'd be very wary. It's not like a laptop where the base can be unscrewed and you have access to the internals. Tablets are all glued together and there simply isn't enough space to tinker in there. If it doesn't work, you are out $280.

I've asked the folks at Rossmanngroup (led by Louis Rossmann, one of the spearheads to the Right to Repair program) about my own busted screen (no physical damage, just won't turn on) and they said it probably wouldn't be worth the cost to repair it/can even be repaired.

Entertaining stuff but mind the language at times:

Laminated screens require complete screen replacement (glass, digitizer and LCD panel). With non-laminated screens found on the basic iPads (and the original iPad Air) if the digitizer and the LCD panel are OK then a broken glass panel can be inexpensively replaced.
