OK, I bought my 2.2 SR MBP from Dick Smith Powerhouse a few days ago, and noticed the yellow gradient at the bottom of the screen almost immediately. Now, I have a few questions in regards to getting it exchanged for a new one that will hopefully not have a problem. I have the Matte Samsung panel. I live in Australia.

Other than the yellow bottom 1/3, everything else seems great.

So, what would sending it back entail? How difficult would it be to get it replaced, because I didn't buy it directly from Apple?

Now, I would really like my MBP when I start Uni again in a week's time. So, if I did want it replaced, would I have to send them this one, and wait for a replacement, or would they send me the replacement, plus a box to send my old one back? How long would the whole thing take?

And a final question, how do I know what week my machine was manufactured in? And in comparison, what week machines are people receiving their MBPs from Apple now getting?

Thank you for any answers.

I guess the amount of time for a replacement to get to you depends on the availability of the MBPs in Dick Smith's - You might wanna ask them about it before returning it.

And if you're referring to the age of your MBP, download coconutBattery. The program shows your battery-life details and also the age of your laptop. I hope that helps :)

To find the week the computer was built, look at the serial number. It'll be the two digits after the leftmost digit 7.

First find out what the return policy is.

Second try to resolve the issue with the merchant first.

Then if you paid by credit card like American Express you may dispute if the merchant is not willing to accept the return, it should be clearly stated what the merchants return policies are.

If the merchant is not cooperative, like many are, then you have every right to dispute the charge. They either have to refund your money or provide you with a laptop computer that satisfies the customer.

If you dispute, you must advise you received defective merchandise for which you are dissatisfied with the products you received.

Good luck!

I would return it as I have heard that the yellow screen problems happen about half the time

that didn't really make sense
