should I return my new iMac?

I just purchased a new iMac last friday and I have till the 6th of march to return it. Should I return the iMac now and seeing that the event on the 24th of march is suppose to announce new iMacs, I would of course like to get the best and lastest for the money I have spent.

Would you return your new iMac now knowing what you know right now?

Sounds like you don't need it right now, if that's the case return it and wait.
 
well I need it, but I also have a new macbook i bought to hold me over till I can get the iMac back.

Also, does apple have a policy if they refresh hardware within a certain period of purchasing the old hardware, that they would allow for an even exchange, or will I have to pay the restock fee as well?

I don't think that there has even been a free exchange policy for any hardware product AFAIK
 
You have 14 days to return it unopened at no cost. If you return it opened within those 14 days you pay a 10% restocking fee, at least in the U.S. So either way, wait a few days, maybe until at least next Tuesday.

Absolutely not. You bought the machine because it serves the needs you have. If it was not powerful enough, you shouldn't have bought it in the first place. For the record, the event on the 24th is a rumor, although likely, it still is not confirmed. There have been new desktop rumors for so long know, nobody knows when they'll come out.

The bottom line is: Even if you do return it and get a newer one in a few weeks, a new mac is always right around the corner. Are you supposed to keep returning them and buying a new one every year?
 
like someone said, the 24th event does not necessarily mean that iMacs will be announced ...... nor does it stop them from doing it tomorrow

I do this - in my experience Apple computers often sell on eBay at around their original price (and in some cases more). I have bought (and later sold to finance new models) 8 Macs in the last few years.

Did you get the fastest iMac currently available with the biggest hard disk? The iMac updates (if they come at all) are most likely to be a minor revision rather than a full re-design so unless you must have the very fastest machine available, you probably won't gain much by returning your current one except a 10% restocking fee...
 
So let me get this straight. You have a great new computer and you want to return it because you read a rumor about a possible event that may or may not announce a new product?
 
I didn't get the TOP imac, i bought the one with 250gb HD and 1 gig of ram. I did upgrade the ram to 4 gigs so ram wise I'm maxed out. I wish I had a larger HD, but currently store file on my "My Book" drive.

To the poster asking about do I return macs every year, What are you talking about. I'm not talking about returning a mac every year when a new one comes out, I'm talking about returning a mac that I "JUST" bought cause for the same money I "JUST" spent, there is suppose to be a new refreshed model. So i have no idea where you got that idea?

But I do agree with some of you about the refresh might not be worth the hassle of a return if its just a minor bump in specs? Guess I'll see later this week if any new news come out about what is going to drop from apple.

I mean, I sell my old machines too. I just bought a top of the line white macbook last year, the 2.4ghz and threw 4gb of ram in it. Should I have sold it when the unibody's came out a few months later? No. What would have been the point in that? I'd still end up spending a couple hundred bucks on a machine that I wouldn't even notice the speed difference, even though it would totally make me look cooler on the internet.

The point I'm trying to make is that: We don't even know if new iMacs are coming out soon and if they do, we have no idea what the specs could be. Chances are it will not be worth the time and money you'd put into it just to have the "newest" iMac.

I fully agree. I have upgraded this iMac to 4 gb of ram, and though it only has 250 gb of HD space, I guess technically when it's time for me to upgrade, I can do so (although it voids my applecare)

Techically video card wise, this iMac is perfect, I'm not a huge gamer, I only play warcraft 3 and soon "Hopefully" Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2 which I know this iMac can handle with no issue.

I think I'll just stick with what I have.

That's a good decision, especially since you have already opened it. My main game for my old iMac G5 was WC3 and it played that pretty well, even on high settings.
 
Well, there are a few rumors bouncing about regarding the new release of the iMacs.

I've heard the following dates as possible release dates: March 3, March 20, March 26, or sometime in June when supposedly Snow Leopard is coming out.

I would say that unless the new iMacs are announced tomorrow (March 3), just use the computer you've got now. The supposed upgrades, as far as I've heard, are not anything totally life changing. It's just the lure of having the newest that's tempting. :)

I have yet to buy an iMac even though I have the funds saved up. If there's no release tomorrow, I'm going to just go out and get the current iMac. If it works, it works, and that's fine by me. (I figure I can wait one more day just to see...)
 
Wait till tomorrow. If nothing is released, then return it. You will be much happier come the end of the month that you waited.

And then keep waiting...and waiting...and waiting...

Or be happy with what you've bought (since you likely won't notice the difference anyway) and don't worry about it.
