Should I sell my 20" Imac ?

I have purchased a 20" Imac ( 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo ) about 5 months ago . I have payed $1399 ( Canadian ) for it brand new with Ilife.

Now ... the new Imacs are out with more memory , better look and speed.
I am now thinking if I should sell my Imac and buy a 21.5" Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz . Is it worth it ?? Much big of a difference ?

I do not have too much computer knowledge but I wish to know if this is a good idea or not .
 
I would. I sold mine for 950US. And bought one on Amazon for 1188US. Free two day shipping for being a prime member. And yes they are more than worth it. The display alone is worth it. For 238US I got a new imac. T


The 20" iMac used a TN panel with narrow viewing angles which produced non-uniform color across the entire screen, CCFL (fluorescent) back lighting that consumed more power than LEDs and also offered a lower screen resolution (1680x1050).

The LCD panel of the current iMac is an high end IPS panel with a power efficient LED back lighting,wide viewing angles (178 degrees vertical/ horizontal), and higher resolution (1920x1080 + HD 1080p).

The new iMac comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse (aka.Magic Mouse with multi-touch) with better speakers, uniform body, SD card slot, bigger hard drive, faster processor and the list goes on.


Do it you will not regret it.
 
I would keep your current iMac, then wait til the first half of 2010, and when Apple releases an update, sell your iMac then purchase it then. I have a feeling the Quad core will be available for the base 27 inch model. The last-gen iMacs are pretty good enough.
 
I'd wait until the i5 and i7 CPUs appear in stock (not BTO) configurations. That'll likely happen in the next update.

But for myself, I also have a 2.66 GHz 20" iMac, it's a year old now. I'm holding on it until it's at least 2 years old before I sell it. I mean, if I swap it now, then what's stopping me from swapping AGAIN when the newest thing comes out? You know?
 
I'd say it depends on how much you'd get for your existing Mac.

A 5 month old 20" will probably go for £650 on ebay. It will still be worth £500-£550 in a year's time, so there's no massive rush.

But at the moment I'd say the only reason to upgrade would be to get the 27".
 
I guess I will post it for sale sometime soon only to see if people would be interested in my firm price. I am sure someone will buy it around christmas time as a gift or something. If not , I will wait till first half of 2010 as mentioned.

Another thing , do the new screens still have the infamous "glare" ? I am into photography and I have a really bad eye problem now since I bought the Mac , I think it is something about the screen , yes I do spend lot of time staring at the screen as well so the screen cannot be blamed fully.

Did Apple improve this in anyway?

I am mostly sold on the new screens and the look , sound quality , 3.06ghz , Sd slot . The model I have at the moment is more then enough memory for me.

How would I be able to transfer all my files , photos , music , Ilife, other programs if I were to replace ??

I am sure there are lot of people who will be selling the past and buying the future.

Yeah I think the new ones still have the glossy glass screen. You can use time machine to backup all your data from your current machine into an external hard drive.
 
I too have a 20" 2.66 (2008 version, with the radeon 2600). The new ones are awesome, but mine does everything I need it to, easily, so I'm keeping it until it's at least 2 years old (next summer).
