hey guys, just a query...i have a 2.33 C2D 2GB Ram 160HD mbp with full applecare that i bought using my uni discount in january, it cost me about £1600. After the next few weeks I will be away until october, when i will return to university. I was wondering whether, as i wont be using my mbp for the next few months, whether it would be worth selling it for potentially more than i paid for it, and then buy a new model in october? Is this a sensible move?

Also, if i were to sell it, how could i do so?

lol, a little different, i'm going on an archaeological dig for the whole summer! Ive had another thought though, i would also be able to take advantage of the back to school promo too in october.......hmmmmm

if you're not going to be using your computer at all for the next few months, i think selling it would be the sensible option, as it's only going to depreciate during that time anyway. sell it for as much as you can, and buy a computer when you go back to school. you might even have it pre-installed with leopard.

i just sold two things on ebay, and the experience couldn't have been smoother. if you're still hesitant to use ebay, have you thought about trying craigslist?

youre not going to get your money back if you sell in uni seeing as they qualify for discounts too...ebay is not bad at all...but if you're selling for the first time with 0 feedback and no paypal account you're gonna have to say something to boost bidder confidence...say, offer people the chance to come see the laptop while the auction is still on, and allow them to pay in person/pick it up when they pay.

Ask around Uni and see if anyone's in the market for a MBP. I find person-to-person sales easier than online.

eBay's not that bad. Just be sure to get Paypal, send it certified, etc. You can change in your selling preferences what sort of people bid, which can get rid of people with low/negative feedback iirc.

Start it off at $0 with no reserve. That sounds insane, I realize, but it really does get you top dollar.

Put it on craigslist, just make sure you get cash, or list it here...

I agree - craigslist is the way to go. You can meet the person in a safe place, get cash, talk over the phone beforehand to get a sense of the person and just feel more comfortable with the whole transaction.

I sold my MacBook CD on eBay a couple of months ago, it was coming up to 12 months old at the end of May so old it before Apple Care would be required.

Looked like new, boxed etc and sold it for very little less than the purchase price. Not bad depreciation for 10 months computing.... wish my car was like that !!!

Had a bit of hastle with the initial buyer, who was in Germany and bought it despite me saying UK sale only... and didn't pay. But I did get a good sale. Dead easy and quite risk free (in my opinion).

Sell and buy later.
Just remember there are good times to sell on Ebay.. it's worth doing a bit of research and monitoring those being sold at the moment to get a good "base" figure of the selling price.
