Hi, so I’ve been planning to get a MacBook Air for college but I’m not sure if I should sell my ipad to get some money back. I have been using my iPad (7th Gen) for 18 months now and if I sell it, I could sell it for around 250 usd?
So I guess my question is that would the ipad still be useful once I bought the MBA? Or should I keep it for idk what reasons?
What do you guys think? Should I sell it or keep it? Thank youu.

Well you’re the one that knows the most the answer. I have both devices and use iPad to take handwritten notes, to listen to movies, annotate PDF, play games, use as a second display for My macbook. Nothing of that is essential and I can live with just a MacBook.

If you don’t plan to do any of these on your iPad, sell it. You can try to use both and sell the iPad if your setup is redundant

If you don’t think you’ll use it that much then I’d sell it and use that cash as either a nice discount on the Air price or toss it towards an SSD or RAM upgrade on the Air..

Tbh, it's all about your finances. We are not privy to that information... obviously, you could find use out of the iPad as others have mention (Note taking, SideCar). But if you find the iPad serves you better as a way to get money, which could go toward the purchase of a MBA.

As a student? Yeah, it should definitely still be useful.

I'm also asking the same question but I'm coming from the iPad Pro (2018) 11" version. I would be using mine mainly for music gigs, so downloading scores and using a bluetooth page turner.. not sure if the screen jump to 12.9" is justifiable.. What do you think guys and girls ? I already have the last i9 MacBook Pro 16" anyway so not changing that for a long time anyway....

If you don’t see a value in the device after using it for 18 months, just sell it.

Thank you so much for your responses! Seems like more people said to keep it so I guess I will keep it haha.

Yeah I think I could use it for movies or videos when I’m working out plus its more portable. Or maybe I could do all these with a MBA hahah Idk yet, so I think I will keep it until I get my MBA and see how it goes!

Thank you all! ❤️❤️

Just keep it... When I got my M1 MBA I was thinking of getting rid of my iPad 6... Now I'm glad I didn't coz the iPad is still way portable than my MBA, and it has LTE... Now I'm itching to get the 2021 iPad Pro to replace my iPad 6...

Keep it for when you feel like you need a bigger screen, can’t beat a iPad when it comes to a entertainment device.

I use my Ipad 90% of the time I just upgraded to the new 12.9” and couldn't be happier So i would recommend keeping it for when you travel, or just sitting the couch surfing or playing a game you cant beat the convenience of an ipad :)

I also use my iPad most of the time - probably 95%. I’m retired now so my laptop sits pretty idle. The iPad works the best for my needs, especially with the cellular plan.

For my eyes, it would be. The bigger the better for reading music and lyrics.
